Kinect Hacked to Play Original Super Mario Bros.

Why not?  YouTuber and generally inventive dude Yankeyan has posted up a video of himself using a hacked Kinect camera to play an emulated version of the original Super Mario Bros.  Being Mario is a lot harder than a fat Italian plumber makes it look, apparently, but Yankeyan purposefully used Kinect's motion-sensing capabilities to control the game instead of going with the easy way out:

"I programmed it to recognize my motions and passed the virtual button presses to the NES emulator.  I could have placed a simulated keypad right in front of me that I can press with my hands, but I thought full body gestures were more in the spirit of Kinect.  Of course, Mario isn't designed to be played like this, so this is really really hard."

He gives Mario 2 and Mario 3 a quick go, too, but I think it's safe to say that we won't be trading in our traditional controllers just yet.  In five years, however... who knows?  Check it out:

I think the Power Glove worked better than this, and that's saying something! Still, kudos to the guy for trying to make many a Mario fan's life-long dream come true lol!

Seems to be kinda hard with the lag. But I think you can get used to it after a while and start jumping a bit earlier or stop/start running a bit earlier.

It looks fun, but he should probably think about the controls a little bit, ane make them easier for the camera to recognise. I think it could be done so that the game would actually be playable.
