Nomura Talks More About the Three Upcoming Kingdom Hearts Titles
by VGChartz Staff, posted on 17 June 2010 / 3,521 ViewsAt E3, Square Enix showcased three Kingdom Hearts games: Birth By Sleep for PSP, Recoded for DS, and 3D for 3DS. Nomura gave some interesting details regarding the three titles.
Starting off with Birth By Sleep, Nomura says in an interview with RPGSite.net that the game is so massive that they could have called it Kingdom Hearts III.
"This isn't just some handheld spin-off. This game is so massive, it's easily as big the two PS2 titles. This game could've been called Kingdom Hearts III and the fans wouldn't have been any the wiser."
Nomura was also asked about Kingdom Hearts III but he responded, "Right now, Kingdom Hearts III isn't in development, but this is a popular series." Kingdom Hearts III will come eventually, but for now Birth By Sleep should be a good replacement.
Famitsu.com also managed to interview Nomura and Andriasang.com has translated it. On Recoded, it seems while h.a.n.d (previously developed Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days on DS) is developing the game, the Osaka team (Birth By Sleep) is also giving a hand when it comes to developing. Yasushi Yasue who is the co-director for Birth By Sleep is also the battle planner of the game. Birth By Sleep was acclaimed for its fun battle system when it released in Japan so there's a good chance Recoded will have one as well and probably better than 358/2 Days' battle system. Also, it seems Recoded will have hints to the story details for the next "major" Kingdom Hearts title besides Birth By Sleep, Kingdom Hearts 3D for the 3DS.
Apparently, Square Enix started developing Kingdom Hearts 3D when Nintendo provided them general details for the 3DS. Nomura planned a general framework for the story and gameplay that accompanies the 3DS's visual expression.
While "Kingdom Hearts 3D" isn't the final title, Nomura noted that 3D is actually an abbreviation of the game's subtitle. Also, Famitsu pointed out initial screens which had Sora and Riku in situations not in the original Kingdom Hearts. Nomura responded,
"This is because it's not a remake, but a completely original game. This time, Sora and Riku are the two main characters. We're currently in the process of selecting new worlds."
"'KH3D' will be a title that enters a new step to follow the three games whose production was announced simultaneously, '358/2 Days, Birth by Sleep, and Coded."
