Square Enix Hiring For Next Gen- Final Fantasy 7: Remake Coming? - News

by VGChartz Staff , posted on 13 March 2010 / 15,312 Views

Square Enix have apparently started work for the next generation of consoles. This is according to the recruitment page on the SE Website.

Here is the actual image you see when you go to the page -

I know... "OMFG!", right? Well... There is no confirmation (obviously) that they are hiring for the Remake itself. But it does say quite a bit about what they want next gen.

Above Cloud, we have the words "Seeking the highest level of talent. New generation game engine development project starts.", which is pretty much straight to the point.

Below Cloud, it gives thanks to the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360, they have provided huge increases in videogame graphics and sound. It also states how in the future, Videogames could rival the quality seen in movies.

They want a game engine system programmer, 3D graphics core programmer, online system programmer, Windows application programmer, rendering programmer, server/DB programmer, plug-in programmer, technical artist and a technical writer. The System/Core programmer must have PS3 and/or Xbox 360 development experience with knowlege on SPU's... All positions based in Tokyo.

"At Square Enix, in anticipation of the appearance of next generation platforms, we've started development on a new generation game engine for competing beyond the level of the strong developers throughout the world, and are presently seeking a lot of talent."

As for Cloud himself being up there... I think my thoughts are known, but hey! Let the speculation begin! (Again)

This is not the PS4 they're talking about.

There's multiple generations of games on each console. They're merely talking about taking the current consoles to a new level graphically.

Seriously next-gen? They haven't even come close to using the full life on the current systems. I know that FFXIII does technically uses the full system, but I think companies should be still working on this gen since no one has really mentioned a next gen system yet anyway. However I would love to see a remake of FF VII, but why not have them finish FF XIII Versus first.

Stop this madness, please. It seems like the "oh my god, they'll announce starfox/pikmin3/fzero next week" thing, just the sonyst version.

In fact, I hope they do it. That way, so much people will realize FF7 isn't that good anyway. Except for those 15-yo kids whom never played the older ones.

WOW!!!! i wrote a comment here yesterday criticizing FF7 and to my surprise it got REMOVED!! that just shows how freaking stupid you FF7 nerdy retards are. basically no one can say ANYTHING negative about your beloved FF7 or you'll fall into a frenzy and get defensive. wow...just wow. this just proves one thing to me, All FF7 fans are a bunch of sissy assed losers who cant take a negative comment. no wonder i didnt see any bad comments on this article, the person who wrote it deletes any bad comments!!!!

@teigaga says: "Whats the chances that FF versus XIII might turn into FFXV?"

0% chance sir, due to it sharing the same world, and have a few similarities. FF's are based on a new story, in a new world, every time. This from the creators mouth himself, so FF13-Versus will just be that. A sequel sorta-speak of FF13, but FF13-V will prolly get rated better due to rumors they've let go about the game. It's supposed to be more FF7 like, more traditional JRPG. I think we will get a product that we wanted FF13 to be in the first place. I am almost done with FF13, and it's a mediocre FF game, sad to sad. I've been just doing side missions and gaining my Platinum trophy. I'm disappoint how not overly fun the game is, even the combat is bad. I mean you have to stagger almost every enemy in the game, terrible concept that proves to be not fun.

I disagree, it would live up to expectations as long as they kept the story the same, and the battle system the same. Also people expect a good world map, and random encounters. Hell, people don't expect all the units to look the same now with much better technologies, and we don't care if they add a few weapons here or their, a couple more optional bosses (extended side quests), maybe more to do at the awesome Golden Saucer. And things like this, all people want is FF7 how it is, fixed angles and all with just good graphics.

It would be a disappointment if they changed things. We want the same bosses, people expect the same voice actors as in other side titles/movies. Also a hugely important thing, is to keep the dialog nearly the same. When retouching a game, dialog seems the one thing that they want to do, but they shouldn't.

Square already tried to say that making towns like in FF are impossible for the tech (meaning PS3 and 360 to handle). LOL, that was a terrible joke with GOW3 rendering full giants, games like MW2 can render houses that stack up to hundreds, and other games that redefine in-game architecture. But yea man, recreating Rocket Town would be OH SO HARD, with its 7-8 houses. What the hell are they thinking, do they think we want bigger cities, with 100 residences to run through? ROFL, it's a joke. Square shouldn't feed us crap, that making 5-10 houses in hard for the tech to handle. It's been done, and with a FIXED angle it's even more easier to accomplish. I would hate to play FF7 remake and feel like FF13, where you're almost always running forwards. That's just stupidly annoying, and gets hella lame. Didn't they know, if you make a linear game with almost no side-quests other than monsters to do it right. I mean they did it once before with FF10, did they forget?

Didn't someone officially state recently that there never would be a Final Fantasy VII remake, because it would be impossible for it to live up to fan expectations, unless they spent ten years on it?

  • 0
zarx (on 14 March 2010)

some of the stuff they are asking for sounds like they will be working no the PC "online system programmer, Windows application programmer" sounds like final fantasy 14 related development to me.

  • 0
Michael-5 (on 14 March 2010)

Cloud is there as a recognizable FF Model, so we can understand how good the graphics really look.

This at most will just be a tech demo, just like they had on the PS3.

  • 0
WIzarDE (on 14 March 2010)

Yay 10 years from now we will have FF 7 Remake ... or NOT !

teigaga (on 14 March 2010)

I really think they should invest their ideas/time into new FF that can supass VII.

Whats the chances that FF versus XIII might turn into FFXV? I Hope it does.

  • 0
johnsobas (on 14 March 2010)

it could really be anything guys, just because they have a little snapshot of cloud doesn't mean a FF7 remake is coming. Cloud is one of Square's most popular characters, it is not suprising they would put him there to attract new employees.

  • 0
Vermise (on 14 March 2010)

They could make a FF7 remake if they just dumb down the graphics lil

  • 0
IvorEvilen (on 14 March 2010)

@DisgustedByTheseP - Either you are a troll... or you lack the ability to communicate. I'll go for the first one and slay you with my awesome magiks~

Anyway, as much as I would like this to be new on FFVII, I highly doubt it.

@bloodcrust - If they are looking for talent for next-gen... then of course they are going to look at those from both consoles, but that doesn't neccessarily confirm the game for either Microsoft or Sony at all... They are looking for talent for NEXT gen.

DisgustedByTheseP (on 13 March 2010)

MOVE ON YOU FUCKING FANBOYS!!!!!!!!!!!! everywhere i go i see this shit about ff7 remakes. SHUT THE FUCK UP U LAME FANBOYS. damn that game is old as a fucking rock. move on u stupid fanboy fucks

  • 0
bloodcrust (on 13 March 2010)

The best part is right here: programmer must have PS3 and/or Xbox 360 development experience.......360 development experience so FF7 for the 360 CONFERMED!! if it comes out YEAH!

  • 0
mundus6 (on 13 March 2010)

The engine which was finally used to make FF13 also debuted with the intro from FF7.

If they are making a next gen engine doesn't mean they are making a FF7 remake and quite frankly i don't want one. FF7 is my favorite JRPG of all time, if they where to remake it, it would probably be butchered. A good remake is really really hard to do, better to just do another sequel.

Vueguy (on 13 March 2010)

SE said"fans want a remake of FF7 and its the FF game our fans love the most. let's remake it, its much easier cause we don't have to rewrite the story, we just upgrade the graphic and gameplay, easy for us, we can make more money than FF13."

that's how they feel now when FF13 is linear and most FF fans hate it.
a FF7 remake will bring them more cashes lol that's how they feel.

and yeah i bet if a FF7 remake will be much better, i wouldn't mind buying it and see all the FF casts in HD.
but a remake isn't necessary, i rather want them to focus on FFV13, much better chance of giving the fans a better game.

PS3beats360 (on 13 March 2010)

There is no need for a Final Fantasy VII remake. Leave it in the past. Time to move on. I hate that all the FF fans want every single FF game to be a rehash of FF VII. If it is different it is considered a failure by FF fans.

Apparently a FF VII HD remake would take up to 20 years to make. So it would be a very long wait.

.jayderyu (on 13 March 2010)

online system programmer, MMO
Windows application programmer, MMO Tools
server/DB programmer, MMO
plug-in programmer, MMO Expansion

This isn't FF7 remake. The above points are all MMO based. This is for FF14. Time to move past the remake idea because clouds face is in it. The job requirements clearly state MMO.

  • 0
ClaudeLv250 (on 13 March 2010)

Yes. Everytime Square advertises something with Cloud's face on it, it means an FF7 remake is coming, even though this train of thought is wrong and has been for about 10 years.

Anyway, everybody know that FF7 remake will be released on a handheld, probably the next DS.

  • 0
aken909 (on 13 March 2010)

I don't why everyone rules out this being for PS4 or NextBox . If it's going to take them another 2+ years to make this game it will be on the next gen HD boxes if you believe the rumors that Sony and MS are already underway with designs and looking at hardware. Everything they're saying points to 2012 for the next next gen.

  • 0
atma998 (on 13 March 2010)

So FF7 remake confirmed that it won't be for the next Sony console since the PS3 is suppose to be there for 10 years :P

But seriously, before they do a FF7 remake they will do FF5 and FF6, so guys we shouldn't celebrate too quickly.

  • 0
SmoothCriminal (on 13 March 2010)

Why do people want a remake anyway? It'll never be as good as the original to them, as they already know what happens. If you really want more FF7, read a fanfic about it.

  • 0
Staude (on 13 March 2010)

What about them just upgrading the engine they used for final fantasy 13. Making a new engine for every game seems .. like a waste :p
