Rumor: Monster Hunter Portable 3 Coming this Year?
by VGChartz Staff, posted on 17 February 2010 / 1,505 ViewsWhen you nail a rumor right, it's natural that your next rumor gets a lot of attention. This is what's happening now with the Hong Kong magazine GameWave. The publication became well known as it was the first to talk about the (later confirmed to be true) slimline PS3, so at least they have some inside info. But, their track record isn't impeccable, so as usual, take this with a grain of salt.

The rumor now is that Monster Hunter Tri (released for Wii last year in Japan) will get a port for PSP, in the form of Monster Hunter Portable 3, and it will be coming this year in Japan. The rumor makes sense, after all, both previous main entries in the series had a PSP port, and those ports sold even more than the main entries. You only have to take a look at the sales of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite in Japan to know why it would be a likely move by Capcom.
I personally don't doubt that an eventual Monster Hunter Portable 3 is going to be eventually announced... though, as for if it's coming this year, that's more debatable
UPDATE: When asked about the rumor, Capcom answered with a standard and swift denial.
"If Capcom was to announce a new Monster Hunter Portable game, the chances of its first appearance in any magazine other than Famitsu are pretty slim. We are not even remotely close to announcing a new Freedom/Portable game in the West, and I've certainly not heard of an imminent announcement in Japan. This is a rumour"
Now, we all know how companies are quick to deny rumors only to confirm them later, so this is as good as nothing
