@ shams

So Mario and Sonic is now a minor release? Since when? After it underperformed everywhere?

I didn't see you calling it a minor release when you made an entire thread dedicated to it.

4 million here we come!

Media Create Number:

shams (on 29 November 2007)

MediaCreate has Wii at 54k, and PS3 at 50k... hmmm...

Closer to Famitsu this week - if anything, looks like Famitsu might be the one correcting (with Wii sales too low last week).

Almost certain to have Wii > PS3 on both charts next week...

  • 0
XanderZane (on 29 November 2007)

With all the price cuts for the PS3, I'm not surprised that it's actually selling now. Even with all the price drops it still isn't gaining much ground worldwide again XBox 360 and Wii. If M$ drops the price of the 360 before the E3, like I think it will, it may still continue to stay ahead of the PS3 for another year. The only thing really keeping the PS3 close in the race is the European. I think most Europeans are buying the PS3 for the Blu-Ray play and not for the games. Blu-Ray is like 75% -vs- HD-DVD in Europe. I truly believe this is the main reason PS3 sales are so much higher in Europe then in other regions. M$ is talking about include the HD-DVD player in their XBox 360 for 2008 X-Mas. That should make things interesting.

it's best to just ignore jhlennon

SleepWaking (on 29 November 2007)

What does he actualy spins? he never said the ps3 was doing bad like you said, he only said ps3 software sales are not so good and the Ps3 had a Big luanh game and the Wii didn't so what does he actually spin? It's all true isn't it?

  • 0
Stats87 (on 29 November 2007)

I imagine Lost Odyssey will follow the "big release" pattern for 360 games in Japan. Pretty solid 1st week, average 2nd week, then fade into oblivion the following weeks. Although, I could see Lost Odyssey having better staying power then Blue Dragon and Trusty Bell. (especially since it is the holiday)

  • 0
jhlennon1 (on 29 November 2007)

Shams, I am surprised you can stand with all that spinning. LOL

  • 0
shams (on 29 November 2007)

@all: M&S "excellent" based on reported 1st day sales.

MediaCreate had a 30% difference from Famitsu on PS3 last week. If it happens again - Wii > PS3. No idea if it will though.

PS3 sales steady - even with a mega-release. Wii sales up around 30% - with a minor release. Fact, nothing else.

Lets see what MediaCreate says, and see what happens next week.

It will be difficult to judge sales for GT5:P as it will be available to download from the PS Store aswell as on Blu-ray.

Anybody's thoughts on the sales of GT5: Prologue?

Launches on 12/13. Two weeks of Christmas sales.

I think Everybodys Golf Portable 2 can do quite a big smash ....the original game on the PSP has sold some 650K units to date in Japan alone and the new game finds the PSP scene with very healthy hardware sales ,more than 2.5 times the userbase and great reviews by Famitsu ......

  • 0
Zucas (on 28 November 2007)

Maybe I wasn't clear enough. But I was talking about quality wise. Quality wise Mario and Sonic isn't good at all. I could go far enough to say it was a piece of crap based simply off brandname. And that is what I mean that its having better sales than it should, becuase bad games shouldn't sale(although they do sometimes). That's all I was trying to say hanafuda. I'm in no way saying Mario and Sonic launched well. I'm just saying that for how bad the game was it's selling better than it probably should be selling.

  • 0
hanafuda (on 28 November 2007)

Doing better than it should hardly defines an 'excellent launch'.

Those figures suggest a 1.7% attach rate. Pretty lame for a game with the word, 'Mario', in the title.

Using that logic would give Winning Eleven for the 360 a 2.4% attach rate.

Winning Eleven 2008 (360) - Excellent launch!!

  • 0
Zucas (on 28 November 2007)

From what was expected Mario and Sonic's start was a disaster. But from the quality of the game, which was not good, it's doing better than it should.

  • 0
hanafuda (on 28 November 2007)

2 other titles to watch out for next week that weren't mentioned:

Yakuza 2 (Ryu Ga Gotoku 2) budget release (PS2)

Everybody's Golf Portable 2 (PSP)

@shams

Just how is Mario and Sonic an excellent launch??

  • 0
Zucas (on 28 November 2007)

jhlennon- I've told yall many times I'm arrogant haha. I give fair warning as I know my good and bad qualities.

  • 0
Kasz216 (on 28 November 2007)

Yep. Relax. Famitsu and Media Crate are basically the same thing... and if VGchartz is off anywhere they'll find out when the companies release their shipping numbers.

  • 0
BKK (on 28 November 2007)

"shams says:

  • Winning Eleven: turned out exactly as expected. PS3 version will have no legs, PS2 will keep doing well."

PS3 WE sold out, maybe you expected that, but I didn't. Expect PS3 WE to have decent sales next week too if Konami can restock again.

  • 0
jhlennon1 (on 28 November 2007)

Zucas, stop thinking too much of yourself. You are becoming a broken record.

It's been proven that the Famitsu and Media Create tracking systems are the same in the end, doesn't really matter.

That 15k last week they minused could be the same 15k they added above what Vgchartz and Famitsu the previous month, There were several weeks where Media Create reported 16-17k while famitsu had PS3 around 12k.

It levels out in the end, it doesn't matter. I made an issue about it back then, thinking back, I laugh because I realize that I was a drama queen over nothing. Now you're doing the same thing.

Huh? Your post is all syntax, I can't understand it. @_@

  • 0
Zucas (on 28 November 2007)

and you've argued that same opinion twice. If that excessive posting of your opinion you see as bad, then you should see your own rebuttals to them as bad as well, otherwise you wouldn't have responded to them twice.

  • 0
DMeisterJ (on 28 November 2007)

@ Zucas

No you are persistent. You've posted what you said twice. You can have an opinion. But don't openly hate on the site that you are posting on. I didn't say you had to stop posting here... just a suggestion before you do get banned for talking bad about the site.

  • 0
Zucas (on 28 November 2007)

Persistent aren't we. If you don't want other people to post their opinions then I think you need to become a Nazi or some other extremist. Otherwise my opinions will not only be heard but respected in the same manner as ones that are positive as well. If you have a problem with that, then only you should be leaving as this is an open opinion site.

  • 0

I hope PS3 sales Hold at were they are in NORTH AMERICA, and the rise above 60k in japan next week.

If the ps3 holds a 300k weekly sales til the end of december it will be near 8 million. But if it really gets a boost in the holidays there is a chance it can hit 9 million.

  • 0
ckmlb (on 28 November 2007)

Galaxy still in the top 10, barely, which beats my prediction.

PS3 beats Wii for 3rd week in a row but I think next week this will change.

PS3 doing a lot better everywhere lately and actually competing with 360 WW again?Don't like to brag, but I did predict 360 and PS3 being even this holiday season, will it last?

Also the long term effects of Halo 3 are not impressive. MS just dropped their biggest game period and it can't manage to beat PS3 worldwide? This must be troubling, especially since Uncharted and Ratchet have underperformed.

I truly believe the PS3 will close a lot of the gap with 360 worldwide in 08.

It is epic

jhlennon1 (on 28 November 2007)

And it's priceless that Shams answer to the Wii's lackluster sales are by pointing at PS3.... Truly epic.

  • 0
jhlennon1 (on 28 November 2007)

I bet you that Media Create doesn't have Wii>PS3...

And Winning Eleven 08 is selling out on the PS3. Clearly Konami didn't expect the demand to be there. It was reported in Famitsu.

  • 0
shams (on 28 November 2007)

Holiday sales starting to kick in. PSP hardware is amazing, considering how badly software sells!

  • Mario & Sonic: excellent launch, considering it had been "written off"
  • Winning Eleven: turned out exactly as expected. PS3 version will have no legs, PS2 will keep doing well.
  • Galaxy: not bad, minimal drop-off from previous week (as predicted)

Dragon Quest easily wins the day - 600k = wow! It may do 1m in its first two weeks. DS sales will explode from here.

PS3 software still underperforming - waiting for full charts.

Any bets as to whether MediaCreate has Wii > PS3 this week?

  • 0
naznatips (on 28 November 2007)

Great sales for every system in Japan this week except the 360. Obviously a much more healthy industry in Japan than people have been giving it credit for.

Great PS3 sales, hopefully they can hold up until the holiday increase.
By the by, when does GT5 Prologue debut in Japan?

  • 0
Avinash_Tyagi (on 28 November 2007)

But you didn't say to wait for official like you did with mine and no emphasis on the preliminary part like with mine, in fact in my own comment I said PS3 could still beat Wii, but you still felt the need to try and put in emphasis on the preliminary part that you didn't have in yours, the bias is clear.

  • 0
konnichiwa (on 28 November 2007)

Yup the PS3 is dead.

  • 0
DMeisterJ (on 28 November 2007)

@ Avinash_Tyagi

I did wait to official. I didn't say PS3 won preliminary, I said it could win. Could and Will are two different words.

@naznatips

I was going to report Globox's post but you beat me to it. Nice job.

  • 0
Avinash_Tyagi (on 28 November 2007)

With my Comments you felt the need to capitalize (emphasize ) twice that it was preliminary, but didn't do that with yours you also told me to wait for official, but didn'ty do that with yours.

Keep denying it, but the double standard is there

  • 0
DMeisterJ (on 28 November 2007)

@ Avinash_Tyagi

I have never touted preliminary data as true, and have always said that the true numbers are what my statements are based off. You can't base statements off of preliminary data because IT IS PRELIMINARY. It could be wrong, could be true. But I have no double standard. I never say something is going to win or lose w/prelim data unless it is by a large margin. (Like the diff between PS3 and 360 prelim this week, no way the 360 would beat the PS3). So... yeah. Stop sipping the juice.

  • 0
y-koron (on 28 November 2007)

@Vienna
Because it isn't certain actual sales are between 50~59k. Shinobi's term said only "more than 50k" and didn't say "less than 60k".

  • 0
siberdib (on 28 November 2007)

Mario and sonic numbers seems good, alot better than expected. Wii hardware hasent been this high for a while either. PSP hardware holding strong even though no-ones buying games for it hardly.

  • 0
Avinash_Tyagi (on 28 November 2007)

@DMeisterJ:

Wrong, you do have a double standard, whether or not you were right about it not dropping, the fact that you didn't say it was preliminary before, but attached it to mine proves the double standard, but I suppose biased people like yourself can't admit that

  • 0
jhlennon1 (on 28 November 2007)

Apparantly the PS3 version of PES08 is supply strained in Japan. Reports from Shinobi have been saying.

Can anyone here who lives in Japan confirm?

  • 0
Vienna (on 28 November 2007)

@y-koron
you know i respect your work/support you're doing here.

but when it can be any number between 50k and 59k - why you didn't take
the middle (55k) ?

  • 0
y-koron (on 28 November 2007)

Additionally, the number 50k isn't the indicator of real number. It is only the target of camparison. We cau use this term even if the actual sales is 100k or more.
So, when I translate this term,
"PS3 kept the sales more than 50k."
I can't add any info from this term because there is no concrete info in this term. At least, it is impossible to say the range of actual number.

  • 0
outlawauron (on 28 November 2007)

If these PS3 numbers hold up, then it'll beat 360 this week.

  • 0
y-koron (on 28 November 2007)

@Louis277
This term is typical Japanese vargue term.
"キープして" wants to says only the number is more than 50k, but it doesn't want to say 50k.
So, there are many possibilities about the number, it may be 50k or it may be 59k. Both are right on this term.

  • 0
takkxyz (on 28 November 2007)

Wait, so is this some kind of preliminary data/leak or the actual data from Famitsu?

  • 0
kamil (on 28 November 2007)

@jhlennon1: This is the same situation as with EG5. It sold around 130k on its first day and around 170k in first week. And than it went down to around 50k next week and 30k week after. But is started to show it's legs later.

  • 0
Louis277 (on 28 November 2007)

@y-koron
"キープして" mean "maintain" in english and therefore, you can say maintain at 50K, but not about 58K

  • 0
jhlennon1 (on 28 November 2007)

http://joshuajamesslone.name/gamecharting/linecompare.html

Use that to compare Media Create and Famitsu numbers and you will see that Famitsu and Media Create end up at the same point.

  • 0
darthdevidem (on 28 November 2007)

WOW

PS3 still AHEAD of wii

I am shocked & happy

  • 0
jhlennon1 (on 28 November 2007)

@kamil

I am concerned about legs because it done 107k first day and then only 38k for the rest. That doesn't really bode well for legs, it might have some legs and obviously I hope it does but I do have my doubts.

  • 0
Louie (on 28 November 2007)

Will Shinobi release more accurate numbers this week?

I´m curoius about possible differences after last weeks big gap in PS3 sales between Media Create and Famitsu.

  • 0
y-koron (on 28 November 2007)

@Louis277
Shinobi didn't say any concrete number and concrete infos.

"5万台をキープして" means simplly more than 50k not around 50k.

  • 0
kamil (on 28 November 2007)

@jhlennon1: I think we cannot judge Winning Eleven legs yet. Everybody's golf 5 also was going down fast in first few weeks. In it's third week it sold only 30.7k what isn't better than DW6 number. But from 6th week EG5 started to drop very little every week and that's how it made to best-selling PS3 game in Japan.

  • 0
johnsobas (on 28 November 2007)

lol, didn't expect mario and sonic to be that high after terrible first day numbers. way higher than expected.

according to people on GAF RE:UC is sold out almost everywhere, seems the second shipment may not have made it.

  • 0
johnsobas (on 28 November 2007)

hm it seems the holiday boost has finally come. DS, PS2, Wii, PS3 were all up, i guess ps3 must be a mix of Winning Eleven and holiday boost.

  • 0
Louis277 (on 28 November 2007)

PS3 sales is dropped. Base on source http://ameblo.jp/sinobi/, PS3 sales figures is around 50K, not about 58K. (This site also indicate Wii sales is around 47K).

  • 0
kn (on 28 November 2007)

With the delta between the 360 and PS3, it looks like the PS3 will have a global week where it just beats the 360. This will depend, of course, on any fine tuning as it looks like the two will be almost identical for the week on a global basis.

  • 0
gamingdevil (on 28 November 2007)

I don't get the "hey gay" thing Globox. Do you a) know he's gay and b) have something against gays? Why don't you just shut up eh?

  • 0
DMeisterJ (on 28 November 2007)

@ Avinash_Tyagi

Good, I'm glad you have no problem accepting that you were wrong for saying it was dropping preliminary, when in fact, it hasn't dropped, but risen. You were also wrong when you said that I have a double standard. I was waiting for real numbers, they are here, so now I am right

Fabinou is doing the cussing why would globox recieve a ban

  • 0
kuraobi (on 28 November 2007)

@Globox : But here, "every single week" means it happened 2 times... And it probably won't happen 3 times, if you look at this week's upcoming games for Wii and PS3.

  • 0
kvh22000 (on 28 November 2007)

Believe it or not competition is a good thing. If all console sell well in the end that could be better for us.

While I am happy to see the ps3 sell well and believe it will maintain its momentum in Japan there is no need to bash the Wii as for the most part it has dominated.

Now if you want to bash xbox 360 sales in japan then go ahead.

  • 0

Hey gay, i am talking about last 3 or so weeks since PS3 beggin outselling Wii in Japan. Every single week fanboy were saying same thing "Next Week Wii > PS3", every single week! Go back and check it for yourself if you dont believe.

"and once it eventually happeneds they will say "Told you so""

  • 0
Edouble24 (on 28 November 2007)

wow PS3 is maintaining it's momentum, impressive. RE dropped too much...

  • 0
Louie (on 28 November 2007)

@ Diomedes: I´m also curious how Wii Fit will sell... I don´t expect it to bomb in Japan but I guess it will be much bigger in the US and Europe. Did I miss something about the games shipment numbers? Last week Y-Koron said it was somewhere between 120 - 300k.

It could really end up selling anywhere between 30 - 300k units in its first week.

  • 0
fabinou (on 28 November 2007)

  • 0
jhlennon1 (on 28 November 2007)

All systems now starting to get the Christmas boost except for the 360.

I am disappointed in Winning Eleven only doing the lower end, which means it's unlikely that the game will have legs on the PS3.

Mario Galaxy showing some really nice legs. Maybe it will reach it's target.

  • 0
libellule (on 28 November 2007)

Unchartred : average/bomb

GT5pro : it is suppose to be shown at the tokyo Motortshow
If the content is not bad for the price, it can sell pretty well (+100k)

  • 0
celine (on 28 November 2007)

Great sales for DQ4 , PES 2008 ( PS2 and PS3 version ) and Mario Party DS.

  • 0
Diomedes1976 (on 28 November 2007)

The only explanation is that the sales increase for end of year is starting right now ....

Very good numbers for PS3 ,guess that PES2008 did its thing ,and also very good sales for the Wii especially considering it only got that stinker that is Mario and Sonic ...

As for Wii Fit ,I woulndt hold my breath ...it only has 170K prereservations from stores so it cant do a massive debut even if it sells out .It can sell some hardware thats true .More interested in how will Uncharted and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue perform in Japan ...

  • 0

Mario and Sonic had a better start than expected I'd say.
