Here we see data representing the global sales through to consumers, and change in sales performance, of the three home consoles over comparable periods for 2007, 2008 and 2009.  Also shown is the market share for each of the consoles over the same periods.

The Wii is up 24%, the PS3 up 10% and the 360 down 3%.  The boost for the Wii and PS3 is the usual seasonal bump. The drop for the 360 shows that the seasonal bump has been offset by the drop following the boost for the MW2 launch last week.

The PS3 does slighlty worse than last week up by 46% year on year compared to last weeks 52% increase.  Still a very impressive boost though and the PS3 is now into double figures, at just over 10% up in the year on year - year to date totals.

The Wii continues its 2009 trend of being down on the 2008 figure, this week it is down around 11% based on the corresponding week last year but thats a slight improvement on recent times and so the year on year - year to date drop now stands at just under 20%. The year on year - year to date drop in actual console numbers sold has increased again however and the Wii is now down some 3.45 million.

The 360 undersells the corresponding 2008 week sales just by around 30% but still it manages to show an improvement in 2009 over 2008 totals for the year to date although that should evaporate next week.

It is Black Friday figures next week... Last year the the Wii achieved 1.29m globally (0.83m US), the 360 0.73m globally (0.48m US) and the PS3 0.40m globally (0.20m US).  What will we see?  PS3 up, Wii and 360 down?  Probably.

@Vexxmania Wow, 60% failure rate for Xbox 360 That's higher than Game Informer magazine results which had the 360 at 54.2% failure rate. As Game Informer said, it makes you wonder about the actual sales numbers of 360 hardware. Where's Penguin when you need him? LOL

Vexxmania (on 27 November 2009)

@ Makaha http://crave.cnet.co.uk/gamesgear/0,39029441,49304288,00.htm Wii : 900 K PS3 : 750 K 360: 500 K

Baalzamon (on 27 November 2009)

I won't be able to find it now because I have had difficulty finding past articles, but it was on the yahoo scroll bar literally 5 minutes before I posted...regardless, anything over 25% is unacceptable for a console...now for something like a laptop, i expect slightly higher.

ChrisIsNotSexy (on 27 November 2009)

The PS3 will sell well over 600.000 units on Black Friday

RageBot (on 27 November 2009)

Great to see the PS3 increase even more :) 360 will probably be down YoY after next week. Well, since the Wallmart deal the gap in NA between the PS3 and 360 has decreased each week, so I think that there's a big chance that they'll be the same next ween in NA.

Makaha (on 26 November 2009)

@Baalzamon which yahoo article were you talking about that said that the Xbox 360 had a 60% failure rate? anyway, Game Infromer had a recent readers poll in the September 2009 issue, and the results were that the magazines' readers who had Xbox 360s had a 54.2% failure rate. I posted the results on the weekly world wide chart from October 24, 2009, it's about half way down page 1 of the comments section: http://www.vgchartz.com/weekly.php?date=40111&console=&maker=&boxartz=1 and I also added the response from the magazine editors, from the October 2009 issue, who responded to a readers email about the poll, and they said that the poll was statistically valid and was conducted by a third party, and the readers could not vote more than once But I was surprised it was that high, I thought it would be more like 30%, and plus it was a recent poll also

My predicition Wii : 950 K PS3 : 650 - 750 K 360 : 500 - 600 K

Domicinator (on 26 November 2009)

Go PS3! Now that I'm a dual console owner, I'm really rooting for the PS3. 360 has proven itself to have legs and be a viable player in the "war". Now let's see what PS3 can do being that the price is right and the groundwork is all there for it to be a success.

Baalzamon (on 26 November 2009)

@binary solo: Whether the ps3 has a price drop or not, I don't see it dropping like the 360 is. The games that are coming out in the first 3 quarters should be phenominal, the "recession" might be even less than it is now, also remember the wand should be coming out, possibly pushing some more sales. I see the ps3 having a very impressive year when compared to 360 next year.

binary solo (on 26 November 2009)

So Black Friday is really that big huh? Never heard of the phenomenon until a couple of weeks ago, when I thought everyone was talking about Friday 13 November and wondering why people were getting so excited by it, including after it had passed. Will we get early reporting of Black Friday sales, or will we need to wait the statutory 6 days for the chartz to formally release?

binary solo (on 26 November 2009)

I anticipate this analysis as much as seeing the raw data each week. Keep up the good work and please continuie it into 2010. The only thing I have to say is commiserations on 360 going into red territory next week. I have a feeling we'll see exactly the same pattern with PS3 in 2010, only I reckon YoY lead PS3 builds up in the first 3 quarters of 2010 will evaporate even faster. Unless PS3 drops in price by at least $50 around Sept/Oct next year (start those rumours early lads).

Baalzamon (on 26 November 2009)

I knew the 360 would drop this week...and to be honest I feel predictions for Wii are too high, ps3 about right or slightly too low, and 360 slightly too high. The ps3 packages are simply amazing when compared to 360 packages. Not only are packages amazing, but it appears to me like more ads have the ps3 on front page versus the 360...which leads me to believe ps3 will even beat 360 in United States. Also, did yahoo get the article out early enough that showed a study done proves 60% failure rate on 360's??? We shall see...by the way, it is very funny that people buy a system with 60% fail rate.

zuvuyeay (on 26 November 2009)

interesting,even though i'm convinced people will really spend this holidays because they have been more thrifty than usual in the year,i'm not sure when they are going to do it, but i do think the wii wil match its 1.2m sold not sure about the other 2 so i'll say ps3 700,000 360 700,000 they are twins after all

leo-j (on 26 November 2009)

ioi said wii is going to be double of what it sold this week, so around 1.4 M is the best estimate we can make.. PS3 double would push it over 700K and 360 over 600K. but I expect: Wii: 1.2-1.4M PS3: 550-700K 360: 450-600K

BHR-3 (on 26 November 2009)

"PS3 up, Wii and 360 down?" do u mean down and up in NA or WW? Will the PS3 beat BOX in NA on BF week? might make a thread with tips if im feeling dangerous enough

darthdevidem01 (on 26 November 2009)

@kowenicki WOW....I never thought it was "that low" ________ This year: Wii -- 1.3 Million PS3 -- 600K 350 -- 500K

Carl2291 (on 26 November 2009)

Ta very much. Wii - 1,100,000 PS3 - 700,000 360 - 600,000

kowenicki (on 26 November 2009)

@carl wii 398k 360 190k PS3 91k

ps3_jrpg_gamer (on 26 November 2009)

PS3 will be the only system to show YoY increase from all three ehis year Wii has to sell the double to touch 1,29 mil 360 2,5 better and PS3 31k more , a prediction Wii 900k ps3 650k 360 500k

darthdevidem01 (on 26 November 2009)

@kowenciki yes it was horrible these sales make it look even more so!

Carl2291 (on 26 November 2009)

Im too lazy to look, but what was Wii, PS3 and 360 numbers in NA the week before black friday last year? Anyone wanna go check for me? :-P

kowenicki (on 26 November 2009)

@darth At least. 150k.. much more probably... the PS3 was dismal in the US last black friday.

darthdevidem01 (on 26 November 2009)

WOW PS3 will completely destroy its pitiful 400K black fridays sales this year! it sshould be up by over 150K YOY!

kowenicki (on 26 November 2009)

whatever "flartlinign" means? flatlining!!

kowenicki (on 26 November 2009)

@cgi I thought 360 was "flartlinign" ;-) just a joke mate dont fret. I'll go with Wii 1,010,000 PS3 710,000 360 610,000 10 appeals to me.

CGI-Quality (on 26 November 2009)

So, for Black Friday, PS3 will probably be the only one up? Interesting. I still think Wii will pull off about 800,000-900,000 next week. I call it now.... Wii - 875,000-900,000 PS3 - 700,000-750,000 360 - 600,000
