Remedy Hints It Might Release Control on PS5 and Xbox Series X - News

by William D'Angelo , posted on 01 March 2020 / 2,979 Views

Developer Remedy Entertainment released the action adventure game, Control, in August 2019 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC via the Epic Games Store. The game had low sales, but has sold steady and had a budget of less than €30 million.

The developer in its latest financial report for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2019 hinted it might release Control on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

"Control’s high quality, uniqueness and technical innovation provide opportunities to bring the game to new platforms," reads financial report. "The post-launch sales have settled on a good level, and the game has maintained a relatively high average sales price.

"With Control, we have succeeded in creating a new game brand and a game that stands out. All of the above support Remedy’s future partner discussions for projects beyond Control, a game that is a great manifestation of what we can accomplish as a company."

Control is available now for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC.

Should just give the option to download the enhancements for 10 bucks or so for the XBO/PS4 Versions

That would be cool. But, I'm sure they'd rather sell additional copies at something closer to full retail. So, I won't hold my breath.

Personally I would like to see this with 60 fps, ray tracing and significantly higher resolution on 9th gen specs. Maybe some games can really benefit on 9th gen even if 8th gen is supported. Am I right, ladies?

Considering how much trouble 8th gen consoles had with this game, I'd say it's a prime candidate for a next gen release, hopefully with some upgrades.

God bless backward compatibility.

MS should buy them. I know the game didn’t sell amazing and given the quality it would be a great addition.

Or they can just give a free patch for next gen console to run as backward compatibility but with enhanced effect/visual quality/resolution/frame rates.

Why would they do that?

I've considered patches can result in improvments. However, we also to consider ports might be required to truly utilize the new specs.

Both machine next gen and current gen are based on X86 especially Xbox running with DirectX API, so it's more like a PC. A port does not required.

Several reasons why they won't:

1 - Another chance for a marketing / release cycle
2 - Opportunity to charge a higher price (say, $40 or even $60 instead of $20)
3 - Recognition as a game branded for newer consoles (greater chance of new consumers buying it and stores stocking it)

You can bet those "GOTY" raytraced ports of FFVII and TLOU2 are coming in 2021 too, backwards compatibility or not.

@Holly - I get the logic, I just don't think they get the full capabilities of 9th gen specs when the game is built on 8th gen specs. I would like to be wrong, but building for the actual 9th gen specs may justify some ports.

There is no building for 9th gen specs , the game was build for 8th gen specs wise with Xbox One and PS4 in mind, even the PC were build within that range with small enhancement on Raytracing. It will just the same with how you run PC games on low end to High end GPU, you just enhanced using software and patch. There is a reason why backward compatibility exist, it's for pro consumer not the other way around. Unless you want pay double , that's your choice.

Well some developers haven't bothered updating titles for mid gen upgrades, even when they're still adding content to the game. For example, Namco said they weren't updating Tekken 7 for X1X due to the work required on the engine and apparently how memory is access, might be BS though. I don't believe a simple patch will fully utilize 9th gen specs.

I think its worth considering games designed to support X1X from start tend to be more impressive than an older game simply patched. It will very likely be the same with 9th gen specs. Games designed to support X1, X1X and Series X from the start will make better use of Series X specs since optimization is done from the start.

That's why there is no need to port it, the games were made to be enhanced from get go to X or to Series X. Of course they can port , but it's just take more time, money, people.

Probably they will, but I don't buy Epic exclusives regardless of the platform.

Lol PC console wars but instead of consoles that cost hundreds of dollars you are protesting a “free game launcher that isn’t steam”. K

@sales2099 No, I'm protesting developers selling out to a store with notably fewer features than the competition, which is an anti-consumer move.

It’s a free launcher. So really your just acting moral when really 99% of the time gamers don’t like splitting their game libraries

  • +1
Zenos Zenos (on 16 February 2020)

@sales2099 Why, yes. It's called having principles. Selling out to an objectively inferior store for timed exclusivity is something I would consider anticonsumer.

It’s. A. Free. Launcher.

It’s online. It’s anonymous and nobody knows your real identity. Have the courage to say what’s really on your mind.

“I love steam and I want all my games in one place. Downloading a launcher I don’t care for is a minor inconvenience that I will mask with moral principles”

@sales2099

"It's. A. Free. Launcher." - With. Fewer. Features.

"Have the courage to say what's really on your mind." - I did say what's on my mind when I boycott developers who sell out to timed Epic exclusivity. You not listening to me is a whole different matter. You want to strawman my position, because it's easier this way. Heaven forbid one has an honest discussion about the merits of timed exclusivity.
