Microsoft Offers Jobs to People Laid Off at Sony Interactive Entertainment - News

by William D'Angelo , posted on 02 February 2020 / 3,197 Views

There was a report yesterday of restructuring at Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe, which has led to a number of layoffs at the company. The United States-based creative services team has also been hit with layoffs, according to an employee who was laid off.

Microsoft’s GM of games marketing Aaron Greenberg has offered jobs to those affected by the layoffs, if they are willing to move to Seattle. He offered to "do anything to help those in the industry impacted."

Sony Interactive Entertainment Chairman Shawn Layden recently announced he would be leaving the company and  Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan Asia President Atsushi Morita announced his retirement.

I'm cynical about this but if this lands some of those people an actual job then it's a good thing.

Would be funny to see how many would apply saying they are willing to move, not get the job and use this post saying they will do everything to help and hit them with a massive lawsuit.

It's a link to their careers page. I can look at that right now. I can also look at SIE careers pages and look for jobs there. Hardly an offer.

The timing of all of this is suspicious. Also isn't Mike Ybarra from MS leaving office as well?!

Hypocritical and desperate. Since when MS cares about people? What about the thousands of MS employees that where laid off ?

That's a pretty good PR move. Hopefully it will actually help some of the affected people.

At Sony it sounds more like "the rats abandon the sinking ship" than "never change the winning team". I'm a bit curious where these person changes do all lead to... It seems Sony really tries to change a bit. After the success of PS4 hopefully not in the wrong direction.

Good guy MS. Have they re-hired from all the studios and projects they have closed/cancelled?
