Gears 5 multiplayer director Ryan Cleven speaking with GameSpot in an interview revealed the game will support cross-play between the Xbox One and Windows 10 PC for Versus multiplayer, Escape, Horde, and Campaign modes.

"We are happy to confirm that Gears 5 will feature cross-platform play between Xbox One and Windows 10 PC for Versus Multiplayer," he said. "Cross-platform play also extends across the other Gears 5 modes to provide a great over-the-top three-player experience in Escape, an epic five-player Horde session, or three-player Campaign co-op."

It will be possible for Xbox One players to opt-out of cross-play against PC players for ranked matches as PC players will likely be using a keyboard and mouse.

"For the launch of Gears 5, Xbox players will be able to opt-out of matchmaking against PC players for ranked matches," he added.

Gears 5 will launch for Xbox One and PC on September 10.
