Gears 5 Won't Have a Season Pass, DLC Maps Are Free - News

by William D'Angelo , posted on 01 September 2019 / 2,817 Views

Developer The Coalition in a new blog post announced Gears 5 multiplayer will not have a season pass and all DLC maps will be free. Gear Packs will also not be making a return, which means no RNG rewards.

Here is an overview of the game:

The world is crumbling. Humanity’s reliance on technology has become their downfall and enemies are uniting to wipe out all survivors. As Kait you must journey across the biggest, most beautiful Gears world to uncover the origins of the Locust, and fight with your squad to protect what’s left.

Key Features:

  • Never Fight Alone: Play solo or with a friend in local split-screen co-op, or online co-op. Battle alongside your friends anywhere with cross-play between Xbox One and PC.
  • Explore Sera: Skim across glaciers, sail over deserts and descend into sunken ruins to discover the largest and most diverse Gears world ever created.
  • Visual Showcase: Play every mode in 4K Ultra HD resolution with stunning HDR at a smooth 60 frames per second.
  • Just the Beginning: Additional features, co-op and competitive modes still to be announced.

Gears 5 will launch for Xbox One and PC on September 10.

Thanks DualShockers.

As great as this is, how sad of a gaming world we live in that something like this, has to be announced as positive news

Anybody remember the days when this would never make a headline as it was simply normal and expected and wouldn't be news?

So free maps and weapons, no season pass and no lootboxes thats great!

I can live with cosmetic microtansactions. But I generally avoid paid DLC that splits the audience. Hopefully MS gets it right and doesent annoy people with paid features.

This smells like microtransactions, which are worse than a season pass.

I don't get why you're being downvoted. Microtransactions replacing season passes is the latest trend.

I'm fine with that. As long as they don't give any competitive advantage, microtransactions are pretty harmless.

The issue with his post is his turning a positive into a negative with assuming Geara 5 will go that route. Majority of games have MT and are perfectly fine.

@SuperNintend0rk It seems people don't want to hear some reasonable suggestions and don't like my personal opinion that microtransactions are worse than season passes.

@Azzanation Yeah, how dare I suggest that a AAA title might replace season passes with microtransactions! This has never happened before.

@shikamaru317 To me microtransactions have no place in a fully priced game, so there is no "right way" of doing them. They break immersion and the meritocracy of gaming.

@Zenos You aren't suggesting anything, you are trying to downplay good positive news. "This smells like microtransactions.." What does MTs have to do with Season Passes and free DLC? The maps are free which is the most important part of the MP, skins and whatever else are cosmetics which no one would or should care about as it doesn't affect there gameplay.

@shikamaru317 I never said the map DLC isn't free. I'm saying that news like this means that there's another revenue source, which is microtransactions, which I find horrid. I personally would rather pay for an expansion some time later which includes the maps. Also what happened to releasing full games? This content distribution system is there only to milk the consumers in one way or another.

@Azzanation so now you are telling me what the intention of my post was? Wow, who knew you had mind reading abilities. Unfortunately they are completely broken and wrong. I care about microtransactions and companies exploiting the whales, regardless if the items they sell are cosmetic or not. I guess I'm not allowed to have that opinion according to you.

@ Shikamaru I'm fine with cosmetic MTS being in games so long as they aren't randomized, or require horrible grind to unlock sans money. If people want to buy a skin or whatever then more power to them for funding development of a game I happen to like.
