Disgaea 3 to get trophies on July 16th - News

by VGChartz Staff , posted on 09 July 2009 / 3,014 Views

Nippon Ichi just announced plans to release a patch on July 16th that will allow fans to unlock trophies in Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice.  However, here is the bad news.  The patch will erase all of your old saved data.  I'm sure you won't mind playing the game again! Anyway, here is a list of all the trophies you'll be able to collect in a mere eight days!

@Cat
You must realize the PS3 didn't release with trophies and wasn't a big deal until recently. Disgaea 3 released in Japan before Trophies came so they weren't a big deal, NIS is showing they're trying to appease their fans by retro fitting one of their games with trophies, give them a break :P

This is another reason why 360 is better. Every game that comes out for it has achievements. PS3 owners are getting somewhat screwed when they buy a game and they don't get any trophies for their work. All games should have trophies and achievements right when they come out. Is it really that hard to include them on the disc like the 360 does? Sony is hitting all the wrong notes.

@solidpumar: the reason some players are upset is because with the japanese trophy patch, they didn't get forced to restart a new game to obtain the trophies. All of the trophies are end game based, non are story based that require replaying of the game to obtain, and people would be happy going out hunting pirates again and the like to get those trophy rewards (ie we don't care that they aren't retroactive).

the big thing issue is how patching works on ps3. you can't pick what version you want to run. so if an HD dies and you have a backup of your save games but not of the entire drive, and play disgaea you'll have to update to use your old save games (save games from 2.20 won't work in any version lower for example), however there won't be an option to upgrade the game to just 2.20, just trophy version or the version off the CD. which effective means new game time there as well.

Of course you will need to restart a new game so you can get trophies. No trophies can be retroactively. That is the way the trophies cant be hacked or exploited.
@ItsaMii
There is no need for them to release trophies, since they wont get nothing from it. They have to trouble of releasing just so newcomers and hardcore fans can enjoy the extra challenge and you whine? No game was able to give you trophies without restarting saved file, it is how trophies system works.
You don't need to download the patch, but be sure, downloading wont erase you saved, the info on this page must be incorrect, you will just need to start over IF you want trophies.

10 hours nonstop, done that many times on my ps3. I easily did that with some game releases like killzone and MGS4.

Erasing my saved data I spent well over 100 hours on doesn't make me want to play this game just for the trophies.

Maybe one day, Disgaea 3. Maybe one day.
