If Ultimate can maintain momentum, it should be able to pass Brawl and Smash 3DS in Japan by New Year's or the week after New Year's. After that, there's no telling how much farther it can climb.

Is that combined or no?

As separate entries.
Brawl should be around 2.6-2.7 million and Smash 3DS at around 2.5-2.6 million. By the end of the first week of next year, Ultimate should be around 3 million.

There's a good chance it'll outsell Smash 4 3DS and Smash 4 Wii U combined though. Maybe not by New Year's, but definitely before next holiday. It only needs 3.4 million to do it, it might manage that before the end of the fiscal year in March. Especially if you count digital, and with a success like Smash, you can bet we'll get that data when Nintendo gives their FY2018 report.

@HylianSwordsman Do you mean worldwide? I'm not so sure it'll sell another 3.4 million by the end of next year in Japan.

Not another 3.4 million, just 3.4 million period. As in it needs 3.4 million in Japan total to outsell Smash 4 3DS+WiiU, and it already has over 1.6 million, so from where it is now it needs just under 1.8 million to beat Smash 4 3DS+WiiU combined. Given it did 1.6 in 11 days, 1.8 more by next holiday seems easy, I'd say even by March would be doable.

Sorry I misunderstood you. I agree that 3.4 million total is achievable.

Smash Ultimate can easily be the best selling Smash title at this rate.
