I wonder if it could outsell Splatoon 2 (lifetime).

PAOerfulone (on 12 December 2018)

Very unlikely. Splatoon is already over 3 million shipped + digital in Japan according to Nintendo, and it's still going steady. It could potentially reach 4 million in Japan by the end of the Switch's life cycle. That's mainline Monster Hunter/Dragon Quest territory.

I don't see why not. Depends on how much more Splatoon sells. If it only gets to 4 million by the end of the Switch's life cycle, I could see Smash outselling it. Smash 4 sold 1.19 million first week and 3.38 million lifetime before digital between the 3DS and Wii U versions, probably closer to 4 million once digital is included. Smash Ultimate sold more in its first week in Japan than Smash 3DS and Smash Wii U combined in their first weeks in Japan. So yeah, I think it'll be close. If Splatoon 2 goes on to sell 5 million in Japan alone, that might be a bit tougher for Smash to pass, but 4 million isn't impossible shipped+digital.

Largely depends whether or not Nintendo makes Splatoon 3 for Switch in the near future.

Arguably very disappointing news for Nintendo - especially as Pokémon has already fallen to the 100k mark with all versions combined. Nintendo wants these two titles to flourish and help propel the system forward, but it seems there won't be a resurgence in Japan this time around....

How could this possibly be disappointing?? Let's Go isn't a mainline Pokemon game so you shouldn't be expecting mainline sales from it.
