Tripwire to Release Next Game Maneater on Epic Games Store - News

Tripwire Interactive announced it has partnered with Epic Games to release Maneater exclusively on Epic Games Store for a year. After 12 months the game will release on other PC platforms.

"From getting our start winning the first Epic Make Something Unreal modding contest in 2004 to having our game Maneater selected by Epic for the inaugural group of games to come to the new Epic Games store, Tripwire is excited to once again join Epic in forging this next chapter of gaming history," said Tripwire Interactive CEO John Gibson.

"Epic are doing something unheard of for digital distribution platforms – they are taking risks by putting money back into the independent development ecosystem via funding some games. This allows developers to take bigger chances and make better games than they would be able to otherwise. That’s a win for everyone."

I was quite hyped for this game, but seeing these little exclusivity deals console style just puts me right off wanting to support them.

I'm not waiting a year for it to hit Steam and buy it at full price. Sorry, but I'll be supporting games that give me the time of day, rather than telling me where to buy said games.

I feel like their game should be sold on all PC storefronts, GoG included, rather than just one storefront.

I agree. Luckily there is always piracy

I disagree. Epic currently takes the smallest cut from indie devs so I can't blame one for making a 12 month exclusivity deal with them. Indie devs have a high risk of shutting down If they don't prioritize their bottom line.

I can't really go with Piracy tbh. I'd want to support the devs, but not a year later if they choose not to support my ability to choose where to buy from.

@superNintend0rk: That's fine for you, but at the end of the day, if they choose to neglect millions more gamers for a finite bag of cash, then that's their fault when their bottom line and trust are damaged long term. People support the stores they are more connect to and trust more.

I definitely see where you're coming from. It's a trade-off between making your game available to more people versus an exclusivity deal, which I assume gave some sort of additional financial incentive to the developer. The Epic Games Store is brand new but it'll be interesting to see how much it grows in the next year. I think Steam should be very nervous right now.

I honestly don't see Steam being very, very nervous about this, especially seeing as how Epic already has recently shown some anti consumer stances, such as no consumer reviews and store region pricing policies. Steam has both of those, as well as numerous features that EGS do not have under their belt. New or not, every store after Steam has had years to study Steam and take all the pages from it's book.

This is definitely not one of those "give it 5 years to mature" type excuses. These guys have the likes of Tencent behind their backs, with 40% of their shares, there is zero excuse to have the store in it's current state and sporting anti-consumer policies. We give Steam crap, but we should be giving Epic all the more, after all they left PC gaming for years to chase console money and this is how they come back to us?.

It's just not acceptable to me and others out there. I know it seems like something completely overblown, but in all honesty, Steam has been with us for just over a decade, while Epic has not, Epic has even decided to drop one of their PC exclusives and has instead decided to just pocket some indie devs for a year of timed exclusives (which is bad itself, as we don't need console style wars on PC).

Also Humble bundle give away stuff for free as well, EA had done so before with their OTH program, so it's hardly new for Epic to copy something so small to give away each month,m especially when you can already own those games as cheap as chips elswhere or already even own today.

I didn't know about any of their anti consumer policies so thanks for sharing that info. It's good to be informed about those kinds of things. However, I do believe that the free game every 2 weeks will help them build a lot of loyalty with consumers, especially the Fortnite community who already has to open their store every time they start the game on PC.
