Very impressive.

John2290 (on 14 June 2018)

These are COD level sales late 7th gen. Amazing, TloU2 could go on to whoop 20 mil along with GOW lifetime. Single players games are certainly not dying but instead reaching new heights, I realize cod is selling in the 20 millions annually or by annually with smaller budgets but still this is pretty damn impressive. I'd love to know how many ps3's and Ps4's this game sold or added to the tipping point for console sales. I know I wouldn't have bought a ps4 when I did if it werent for the remaster being on the way. I might never have gotten back into gaming if it wasn't for this title and the games industry would be about 4 or 5 thousand euro shorter.

EricHiggin (on 14 June 2018)

Or people like me who bought a PS4 just because I felt it was time and the cheapest bundle available just happened to be the Uncharted Collection with TLOU. I actually tried to sell/trade them both but couldn't come to a reasonable agreement, so when I ended up in a game drought I played them both. It led me to buying UC4 and UCLL, and based on what I have seen so far I will be buying TLOU2. These PS franchises are what also led me to purchasing games like HZD and soon enough, GOW as well.
Sometimes the games sell the console, other times the console sells the games.

Meh, let's just say 1 million copies of the game were from bundles it's still blowing my mind this game sold over 15 million copies for a heavily story driven, single player experience. Games like this just don't sell numbers like these. This game obviously set the bar for its genre. Truly impressive stuff!

Areym (on 14 June 2018)

Holy crap, I had no idea. I always imaged it in the 10 million. Talk about legs (and a well timed remaster)

VAMatt (on 16 June 2018)

The remaster certainly was important. I'd like to know the sales for it alone.

  • 0
StreaK (on 17 June 2018)

I think the remaster sold like 6-7 million copies alone.

Single play driven games just don't sell anymore, they said.

BraLoD (on 14 June 2018)

Single player* xP

"The Last of Us" has made history, every gamer should experience this game. That's QUALITY (Gameplay, Story, Characters, Atmosphere, Soundtracks ect) !!! PS: The game is incredibly exciting on the hard difficulty level.

CGI-Quality (on 15 June 2018)

Nah, he had it right. I suggest anyone who is able should play it.

  • +4
Azzanation (on 15 June 2018)

Able? meaning being able to hold a controller? I wouldn't let a toddler play this game, its pretty brutal and the sequel looks set to out do it.

At this point, Azzanation, it's probably better if you walk away from this topic.

Hynad (on 17 June 2018)

People downvote your comments because you are as always predictably downplaying something PS related.

  • 0
Azzanation (on 17 June 2018)

No one is downplaying anything, I played and enjoyed TLOU. Game isn't for the young. That's my point. and i made its pretty clear. Oh well CGI wants to boot me out of the convo so I moved on long ago.

Hynad (on 17 June 2018)

You always find a way to inject some negativity into PS conversations.

It got old a long time ago.

CGI-Quality (on 17 June 2018)

@ Azzanation: It's not to pick on you. Things tend to not go well for you in PlayStation-related topics. Perhaps it's history and people are less forgiving. Whatever the case may be, I'd prefer to see you move on and keep yourself from getting into anything (and the same for anyone else). Bringing me to my next section...

Hynad: I get that he said something that bugs you, but yeah, let's move on and hopefully it dies off on its own.

Part2 will beat it.

DialgaMarine (on 14 June 2018)

With the reception it's gotten, more than likely.

If they remaster it for ps5 that's possible. If not then I don't see it happening.

Definitely.

StreaK (on 16 June 2018)

I bet ya any money the remaster's sales are like 80-90% from new buyers. Not double dipping. There was nothing really new to warrant another purchase (unlike GTAV, which gets consistent online updates.) The true fans (like myself, of course bought it again) but I would not put it past 50% of the purchases.

CartBlanche (on 15 June 2018)

So very well deserved. I hope LoU2 will top 20 million!!

Angelv577 (on 15 June 2018)

The last of us is know for its single player but it also had a good multiolayer. Well deserved .

Replicant (on 16 June 2018)

Agreed. The multiplayer in TLOU is the best mp experience I've ever had. Can't wait to try the mp in TLOU2.

StreaK (on 16 June 2018)

Now THESE sales are totally based on quality and true greatness. No question about it. This game set the standard for mature video gaming geared towards adults and not children. Games like this just rarely ever surpass the 15 million mark. The Last of Us is simply one of the finest video game experiences I've ever had. Years later I still think about the way I felt the moment the journey was all over. Truly groundbreaking stuff. Can't wait to play it for the 2nd time to prepare for TLOU2.

GoldenHand80 (on 16 June 2018)

that means that around 20% of PS3 owners bought this game. That is impressive indeed

VAMatt (on 16 June 2018)

It doesn't mean that. These sales numbers certainly include the PS4 version.

  • +2
GoldenHand80 (on 17 June 2018)

Ah ok completely forgot the ps4 version. Thanks for the correction

Metroid33slayer (on 14 June 2018)

What's the breakdown 11m on ps3 and 6m on ps4?

CGI-Quality (on 15 June 2018)

According to Zhuge (Era), the games are even across both platforms. So, that would translate to just over 8 million for each.

Lekzie69 (on 24 November 2018)

probably sony's best selling exclusive of all time

Don-vito-1991 (on 17 June 2018)

very well deserved. one of my favourite video games.

Shadow1980 (on 15 June 2018)

I think that makes it the best-selling non-Nintendo first-party title ever. Halo 3 sold something like 14.5M, and Gran Turismo 3 sold about 14.9M. Quite an accomplishment.

Replicant (on 16 June 2018)

The only non-Nintendo 1st party title above it is Kinect Adventures that came hard-bundled with every Kinect and sold 24 mill.

Though in defense of Gran Turismo 3 and Halo 3, they reached those numbers without re-releases.

TLOU2 will be the one to legitimately take the throne.

StreaK (on 17 June 2018)

ANd let's face it, who the heck that played TLOU will not want to buy the sequel. I doubt there are many gamers who have finished the game with disappointment.

Podings (on 15 June 2018)

Surprised and impressed.

Mr_No (on 14 June 2018)

Them legs!

NSS7 (on 16 June 2018)

7 million for PS3 (August 2014) . Assuming another million for PS3. So, around 9 million for PS4

StreaK (on 17 June 2018)

I'm pretty sure the PS3 MUST have sold more than the PS4 version. Maybe it's the other way around lol.

  • +1
Kerotan (on 14 June 2018)

Fuck. 20m a lock. Will probably do 25m with the eventual ps5 release. Crazy.

StreaK (on 17 June 2018)

Thing is, the first year or two is where it matters. After that the game's can be heavily discounted and won't make the money it would have otherwise.

  • -1
Kerotan (on 17 June 2018)

Even if it sold 10m at €10 that's still 100m and would basically pay for the sequel.

  • -3
VAMatt (on 17 June 2018)

That's $100m at retail. Only a small portion of that makes it into the hands of the publisher.

  • +1
Kerotan (on 17 June 2018)

I meant psn sales. Average price at retail is well above 10 usd.

  • 0
Kerotan (on 17 June 2018)

And 10 dollars is a low ball. I believe the average price of the last 10m copies would be closer to 30 then 10.

  • 0
KingofTrolls (on 17 June 2018)

I guess retail games flied off the shelves like full 2 years, the rest is digital.

  • 0
StreaK (on 17 June 2018)

Yeah, it'd be great to know exactly how much total revenue the game banked since many of those sales came from discounted games. Like also, how many of those sales came from full priced copies?
