'EA is Not Making a Single Dollar' on A Way Out - News

A Way Out developer Josef Fares revealed that Electronic Arts is not making any money from the game.

"Here’s the thing, and you have to understand this: with this deal that I have for this game, EA is not making a single dollar out of this," said Fares. "Every single dollar is going to the developer. They’re not even making any money and all I’ve got is support from EA.

"They’ve not questioned the vision – they can’t because I won’t allow it – so they’ve been super supportive all the way. Even with this buy one [Friend Pass] thing, no problem."

Fares is also the developer of Brothers: A Tale of Two sons.

A Way Out launches on March 23 on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC.

So, why would EA want to publish their game, then? I just don't understand what EA gets out of it if they won't get a single penny from sales.

Maybe instead of money, they got the full control over the IP. This could be worth more than the money from the first game in the long run

I believe they do this to receive good publicity and is an easy way to expand their portfolio and be known for more artistic games than just their annual franchises. This would further help increase stock value as they would be seen as a company that has extremely high selling properties along with critical success. (only am assumption from me)

There's gotta be a catch. There's so many indie developers that would love to get published by EA for free.

This seems highly unlikely. But, I'll wait until more information is know before calling BS.

Yeah, EA are super nice... just not to the customer. Get out! This doesn't even come close to making up for all the loot box schemes, studios closed and loved IP's lost. EA is cancer.

I don't trust this developer as far as I can throw him. His appearance at the Game Awards was atrocious (if admittedly funny) and he just seems shady as fuck.
Closest comparison I have would be Tommy Wiseau.

There has to be something going on under the table. EA never supports anything unless they expect to squeeze every last drop of sales revenue from it.

Probably to sweeten them up before a takeover knowing EA

Yeah, they've been going back and forth over the last few years by doing things to fix their image but also doing things to screw it up again. It's like they have different directors handling different projects, and they have completely different image goals for the company. They've been doing enough good lately for me to still like them, so I'm happy to support them still.
