Xbox One X Was the Best-Selling Premium Console in the US This Holiday

Xbox One X Was the Best-Selling Premium Console in the US This Holiday - News

Microsoft in its earnings report revealed the Xbox One X was the best-selling premium console in the US during the holiday period.

"Our new Xbox One X was the top selling premium console this holiday in the U.S., and we saw strong sales of the Xbox One S," said Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. "We will continue to innovate in console to attract high value gamers who want immersive, 4K experiences, to build a broader subscription service with Game Pass, and to extend our services to all the devices in our customers’ lives across console, PC and mobile."

The success of the Xbox One X helped increase Xbox hardware revenue up 14 percent year-over-year. However, due to the lack of major AAA exclusives, Xbox software revenue only grew four percent. The increase was due to the "continued momentum in digital distribution"

Xbox Live monthly active users grew seven percent to 59 million with growth on the Xbox One, Windows 10 and mobile platforms.

Microsoft announced earlier this week it acquired PlayFab a backend platform provider of services to build, launch and grow cloud-connected games.

I should hope so, seeing that it just released. How's it doing now?

Well Scorpios only just sold out on Amazon a while ago here (UK). And now Argos have them on sale now, so probably not good. US will be fine for Xbox, as always.

I would certainly hope so. If it WASN'T the best selling premium console during the holidays when IT LAUNCHED in the holidays, then Microsoft would be in real deep shit.

It's interesting they emphasize "Premium" because I'm almost certain the PS4 Pro was the best seller of the two since it was $350 on Black Friday & Cyber Monday.

Damn, Microsoft has got some balls. Best-selling premium console in the US this holiday. Literally last place this holiday and they still find a way to spin it in their favor.

The only thing the statement is missing is "named the Xbox one X" to render it completely pointless, the way it stands it just means, X outsold the pro in the US, and I thought Ms wanted to get away from petty comparisons of which console sells better?

Its the best Premium Console to own, especially if you own both, just like the PS4 was the better main console to own in 2013, power does matter. Lets hope it does well this year and Microsoft steps up software support.

Fairly niche market to "dominate" one holiday season, don't you think?

i love how they twist words for wall street "best selling PREMIUM console"

This is MS once again making use of word gymnastics to give themselves a pat on the back. What else is new? For starters, this is US only; last I heard, there was a lot of boasting that X was supposed to outsell the Pro for the ENTIRE YEAR, based off those Amazon chart articles. Not just for the holidays. Also, why are they so afraid to use WW figures? They sell consoles outside of the US, don’t they?

On that note, where’s the overall sales sales numbers overall? This whole shpeel about “oh we don’t care about hardware numbers anymore!”, right before they announce stuff like this, is getting really old.

I said it before and I will say it again. The Pro is a half baked box that should have aimed for $499. For a Premium console it doesent do enough.

However, I will give Sony credit for making the base PS4 great. I'm happy with my standard PS4.

At least Sony didn’t blatantly lie about Pro’s capabilities. Whatever happened to “the highest framerates, the best resolution, no compromises” or the “true 4K console”. Last I checked, there are several games already where the X actually struggles to keep up with a Pro, and less than 5% of its “enhanced games” library are games running in native 4K/ 30, let alone native 4K/60.

MS hit the right audience with this machine. Its no PC however its close. And many believed that the premium badge and price wouldnt sell the system. Its all in the marketing.

Harsh, they saying the Switch isn't premium?

maybe I am getting it wrong but I don't think MS considers base ps4 and xb1s as premium console either.

It’s a premium handheld, but not a premium console.
