Switch Best-Selling Console in the US in December, Xbox One Outsold PS4 - News
by William D'Angelo , posted on 12 January 2018 / 10,321 ViewsAaron Greenberg, Head of Xbox Games Marketing at Microsoft, revealed earlier tonight that the Xbox One had the highest December console share ever in the US.
Greeenberg has now clarified to fans on Twitter that the Xbox One outsold the PlayStation 4 for the eighth generation consoles, however, the Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console for the month.
Was trying to just thank folks for supporting us and the incredible success following the launch of Xbox One X. But yes Xbox outsold PS4 in December for Gen 8 consoles according to NPD data, while Nintendo also had a great month as Switch had most overall units.

Can't say it surprises me one bit tbh.
LMFAO
Just saying, that insidier that "someone" doubted, was 101% correct.
He predicted Switch first, XB1 second, and PS4 third. Congrats to Benji for being accurate, AGAIN.
Youtube will be salty, won't it.
Good to see some competition in the console sales wars. Competition is good for industry it leads to more innovation and more game releases.
Don’t forget this has been happening every year in the US. Nothing has changed. Worldwide is still a different story.
@errorist76 Except it hasn't, Dec 2015 and 2016 NPD PS4 beat X1. Didn't even take me 2 minutes to find that info. I know you're in damage control mode but damn, at least make some effort to hide your blatant spreading of misinformation.
Libara So how was it in November?! You DO know PS4 still won by a mile (like 2:1) worldwide. I wonder who is the one in damage control mode here.
Except this article was talking about December, and your reply was very much referring to December in previous years. You appear in almost every MS article and thread trying to downplay/damage control anything positive. Surely you should be playing your PS4 instead of spending so much time on a forum defending your purchase?
I don't like this Greenberg guy.
Good, he’s a total tool.
Everyone should rejpice that we have such a healthy industry that still competes with all other platforms like smartphones, tablets and so on.
lol, the 8th gen spin. go to the bin Aaron
So everybody has a record: The Xbox outsold the PS4 in the US in December, the Switch has the all time best selling year in the US and the PS4 is the best selling console in the world so all is good in the world of consoles and everyone is happy.
Don't know why you got down voted to be honest. :/
@StreaK Because there are idiots everywhere, even when you try to be positive about all three systems they still feel the need to act as morons. Honestly only 5 downvotes? There are way more morons than that so they either have not seen my comment or many upvotes have offset their downvotes.
I upvoted you. It's at -1 now.
I would like to know the TOTAL numbers for each console for the month of December.
Looking forward seeing some real numbers put to this story. Looks like we can now account for the 5% drop in demand for PS4 during the holiday season.
But if Greenberg says that the Switch is not 8th generation, then that must be true, right?
He SHOULD have said, Xbox One was the best selling 8th gen console in December and left it at that. It sounds better than "best market share" bla bla bla.
Tecnically he is right there. Switch is indeed gen 9. :D
Sony and MS are soooo far behind
Somebody needs to update the charts on here then because they are wrong.
the charts are per week and it shows the Xbox selling a bit more than the PS4 in the US, so I don't see what is wrong there.
They already got edited twice, because originally it was PS4>XBO>Switch in terms of sales, with big gaps in between. Now it's the other way around, with small gaps between the contestants.
Can't find forum rule 12 anywhere. As for taunting a banned user, i had no idea he was banned when i originally commented.
I think the 'taunting a banned user' was referring to your second comment ("Can't say it surprises me one bit").
Fair enough. It was only an observation but in hindsight maybe 1 i should have kept to myself.
outsold the PS4 by 6000 units ....mmm interesting ....
Where'd you get that statistic?
vgchartz
this guy... geez why you spin words???? why can't you say it like it is?? we will anyway get the results in a few days....
Read my name
Yes sir !
Heisenberg.
Ita good to see the Xbox One X getting recognition in sales! I've always been a Sony man before the X, but kudos to Microsoft for making such a quiet yet powerful console. It's never gonna appeal to the 'casual'/family masses like its rivals (or indeed the base Xbox One), but it's nice to see a higher priced console aimed at the "hardcore gamer" is selling above expectations in the US at least. It deserves it frankly, I'm glad I have one! 😁
those numbers aren’t caused by 1X though. They are caused by a 199,- PUBG bundle.
Won't believe it till i see it
So XBX 1st in value for december?
With PS4 and Pro getting cheaper and all those blockbuster titles I don't think 2017 was PS4s peak year yet. Pretty unlikely tbh
Sorry man...I hate this commenting system.
The switch only sold this well because it launched with its most killer rated apps, this year won't be the same it will sell another 12million at best but PS4 is going to sell 23million + with games like God of War ff7 remake etc etc. think about it.
in 2019: ps4 only outsold switch because it release with its most killer rated apps, this year won't be the same it will sell another 12 million at best but switch is going to sell 23+ million with games like pokemon super smash and i am just talking out of my butthole
He’s right though...2018 won’t have Zelda, Mario, Mario Kart, Xenoblade 2 and Splatoon. That said those games still exist and will still make me buy a Switch this year.

So now there are articles, based on hearsay?
This is a top Xbox exec who has access to NPD not really hearsay
Well, it's been updated now. Kinda voids my original point.
It’s been updated but the new numbers don’t look realistic either.
