Nintendo: No Switch Discounts for Black Friday, Focused on Supply - News

Black Friday is only a matter of days away and gamers might be hoping for deals on the Nintendo Switch, however, Nintendo does not plan on discounting the console.
"We are not discounting the Switch…. We’re focusing on making sure we have robust supply at retail," Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime told The Washington Post.
Following the lack of supply for the NES Classic last year Nintendo is making sure to ship as many Switch consoles this holiday as it possibly can to meet demand.

With supply issues, I don't see why they would do a price drop or why would anyone expect one. They're most likely to sell out anyways at regular price.
In what bizzaro world would one think that a brand new console, that is selling like hotcakes, would be discounted for the holiday season?

Seems logical seeing as they have being having trouble keeping up with the demand. But I guess with this situation the second place is all but guaranteed.
I... don't know exactly what you mean.. I mean, I keep hearing that the Switch is still having stock issues. So that means that the demand is higher than the supply, Isn't? Well, if that's the case then it would make sense for them not to reduce the price for now, don't you think? Sorry, english is not my native language and it looks like I'm not being able to express myself correctly.
Nintendo isn't stopping any stores from doing their own deals, though. They just aren't enabling it by charging less themselves.
They're doing the right thing.

People will pay whatever price is asked for the "hot" thing and so far, Switch is that thing. I don't think any other console stands a chance over the next two months.

@AlfredoTurkey: Switch has been lagging behind PS4 in sales this year globally. I think it's safe to say that if Switch is hot, PS4 is hotter. There's also Xbox One X to contend with.

You are having a hard time understanding that they are selling all their stock, the only reason switch didn't completely smashed Ps4 this ywear was stock limitations and a price discount would not change the fact that they are about to sell all their stock again in black friday, so no, it doesn't change anything, think a bit for once.

Azuren, Yes its a sales discussion, but my point is they can only sell what they have available. Your comment seems like you're implying they might not win black Friday because they don't have discounts while other companies do. In reality, the switch will sell through with or without a discount. If they don't win black Friday it will most likely because they didn't have any more switches in stock, therefore, people cant buy them, if people cant buy them, then the number of units sold will be whatever was put out there in stock. So a price a cut for the Switch seems irrelevant to winning black Friday.

@Junojun: So if I can take a picture of still present Switch stock at a national chain this Saturday, what then? The fact of the matter is Black Friday is for -sales-, not general shopping. If the Switch can be obtained any other day at the same price, then why fight for that when you can save $100 on a PS4?
Because some people want a Switch and not a PlayStation 4...? Same way some people want a PlayStation 4 and not a Switch. A person who wants a PlayStation 4 and not a Switch would buy it regardless if the Switch was cheaper and vice versa. A person who wants a Switch and has had trouble finding one would might still get one black Friday regardless if the other products are 100 less because that's what they want. You can put a PS4 PRO for only $100 on Black Friday and I would still not buy it as it doesn't entice me, but I'll pay $300 for the Switch as that is what I wanted. And if you want to take a picture go ahead, seems to me like you can spend your time in something more productive and valuable, but it's your time, by all means go ahead.

The problem is Switch cannot be obtained in many ocasions but in black friday there is gonna be more stock than usual, so that's why its a good moment to buy one even with no discounts.
@Junojun: Yeah, that's not even something we can prove or disprove due to stock issues being coupled with higher PS4 Global sales. But we can prove that unless someone is looking for deals, they don't shop on Black Friday because that would be pretty damn stupid.

I cancelled my response because no matter what points I make, you won't relent because you've already convinced yourself that I'm a fanboy. No matter how right I am, "He's just being an ignorant fanboy". So why would I bother feeding the kind of petty mindset it takes to make responses like what you just said?
Azerun, the Switch has sold more in the US than it has in Europe as did the Wii U, 360, Xbox One... only Sony sells more in Europe than the other territories. Europe is not a bigger market overall. Just for Sony.
