Microsoft Looking to Increase Development Investment

Microsoft Looking to Increase Development Investment - News

Head of Xbox Phil Spencer speaking with Bloomberg in an interview revealed that Microsoft is looking into increasing its investment into developing more games. This could mean opening up new studios or acquiring existing ones.

"We need to grow, and I look forward to doing that," Spencer said. "Our ability to go create content has to be one of our strengths. We haven’t always invested at the same level. We’ve gone through ups and downs in the investment."

Spencer added that Microsoft is looking into launching a streaming service that would not require a console in the next three years. Microsoft did an internal trial in 2012, however, the service at the time was too costly and did not make it to market. Microsoft's Azure cloud service improvements over the past few years is helping make it more viable.

The more powerful Xbox One, the Xbox One X, launches today, November 7.

On the date they launch a console they talk about a game service in 3 years which doesn't require a console? Sounds like a stab in the back as the X goes out the door...

Are you really that surprised though?! Isn’t that the typical MS way, hype stuff up with fairy tales for years and then stop supporting it early! They’re just on it for the quick dollar, always been.

I don't believe you errorist I'm still confident that if I wait long enough it will start raining more power from the cloud into the original X1 model.... I don't need to buy the X model because of the power of the cloud can add unlimited power.... right? guis?.... it's coming right?

I would not be surprised if the (new) rumors are true.. that in the future microsoft-games appear on PS4 too. Maybe really in late 2018 / early 2019?

Only so much failure from microsoft can a loyal xbox fan take before you realize they are trolling us...great PR, poor results.

We’ve been hearing similar fairytales for many years now. Spencer is all marketing talk, nothing more.

As long as they don’t buy out any Japanese developers or exclusives like back in the day, or even recently if we consider scalebound, I’m good. That did no good for anyone including MS. But especially for the developers and gamers. The games just don’t sell well at all on Xbox consoles anywhere.
