Middle-earth: Shadow of War requires a fair bit of space as the Windows PC version is a 97.7GB download, according to IGN executive editor Dan Stapleton. The PlayStation 4 version is smaller at 63.93GB.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War will launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC worldwide on October 10.

Almost 100GB! And who knows how much it takes once installed. Game sizes are getting out of control.

Game sizes aren't the problem. The problem is the slow development of bigger HDDs or other means of data storage. The last few years have been very poor in that regard. The first 2TB internal HDD launched in January 2009 and was still affordable ($300). Almost 9 years later you can find 16TB drives for ridiculous prices. 10TB drives are still $400.

It IS a problem. You're forgetting that almost no PC user ever physically buys a game anymore. So good luck to the Americans who have a 1mb/ps speed. But a 4TB drive here in the Netherlands is 100 euro. You don't need a 10TB drive if you can just put multiple ones inside.

While that's true, you have to remember that there are limitations. For starters, HDD drives can't get bigger, and there's a limit to the number of plates that can be put inside a 3.5" drive, so manufacturers have to find new ways to increase storage. Also, HDD sales have been declining for the last few years because most users have more than enough with an SSD and a 2-4TB drive, and those huge HDDs cater enterprise and prosumer users, not "mere mortals".

Well, I have the Xbox One and PC Version (Xbox Play Anywhere). The console version is about 35GB while the PC version is just shy of 70GB. Although maybe it is the Steam Version that is almost 100GB.

So shy of 100GB? Sounds like its heavily compressed.

Voice doesn't take a lot of space. And yeah, I'm never installing this on a computer. Forget it. I have a 120gb ssd. :|

20GB for your OS and 100GB for the game.
No Problem.
You don't need space for anything else; do you?

Mario Odyssey going to be 1/20th the file size of this, for comparisons sake. I know which one I'm more likely to be keeping on my device.
