Splatoon 2 sold 670,955 units in its first three days on sale in Japan, according to Famitsu. That is the biggest debut for a Nintendo Switch title in Japan, as well as the highest selling Switch game. The figure does not include digital sales on the Nintendo eShop.

To compare, the original Splatoon on the Wii U sold 156,610 units in its first four days on sale in Japan and has sold 1.51 million units to date.

Splatoon 2 helped push to date sales of the Switch hardware in Japan to 1.21 million units. The Switch was first released on March 3.

Wow! Including digital and the full 7 days of sales and that number is even higher! The Switch is gonna get it's first 1 million seller in Japan in only a matter months. Truly amazing sales this early in the Switch's lifespan and on such a limited install base.

Why would digital increase it's sales by 20%? Nintendo consoles have a very low digital ratio compared to ps4/xbo, and even for them the average is about 16% or so currently.

Look at Splatoon on the WiiU for example. VGC has it selling 4.68m at retail. Nintendo have it at 4.83m total.

Using the same digital ratio as the first game would put it at 692k.

Well I was honestly just spit balling, I only really focus on sales on games I can make a strong case for. I guess I just figure, that Splatoon 1 was a surprise hit and if Japanese players don't want to get into a huge clustered line at retailers they might just buy it on the eshop. Wii U downloads were incredibly slow but I downloaded Splatoon 2 on my switch in like 30 minutes. That's not as good as a PC but add to that the fact it's only around 4 gb and i just think it makes sense, but you're probably right.
