The VGChartz Gap charts are updated monthly and each article focuses on a different gap chart. The charts include comparisons between the 7th generation and 8th generation platforms, as well as comparisons within the 8th generation. All sales are worldwide, unless otherwise stated.

Wii U Vs. PlayStation Vita Global:

Gap change in latest month: 116,739 – PSV

Gap change over last 12 months: 559,846 – PSV

Total Lead: 1,445,383 – PSV

Wii U Total Sales: 13,843,880

PSV Total Sales: 15,289,263

In the latest month the Wii U fell behind the PlayStation Vita by another 116,739 units. In the last 12 months the gap has increased by 559,846 units in favor of the PlayStation Vita. The PlayStation Vita currently leads by 1.45 million units.

The PlayStation Vita first launched in December 2011, while the Wii U launched in November 2012. The PlayStation Vita has sold 15.29 million units, while the Wii U has sold 13.84 million units.

With the release of the Nintendo Switch in March 2017 it is now looking more unlikely the Wii U will catch up to the PlayStation Vita.

I mean yeah but we all know the handheld market is not the same anymore, 3ds won't beat x360/ps3 or even the psp

I think 65-70m will be quite good for the end of traditional handheld devices. 110 for the gameboy, 80m for the GBA, 150m for the DS, and now 70m (probably) for the 3DS. A shame the Vita couldn't do better- I was hoping for around 40m sold.

If you meant by "traditionally ninty handhelds always sold better than Ninty consoles" i agree. Same cant be told for Sony or when you compare both Sony and Nintendo except for Vita and Wiiu
