Sony: Nintendo Switch is a 'Unique System' That Will 'Cover a New Market for Themselves' - News
by William D'Angelo , posted on 08 December 2016 / 8,131 ViewsShuhei Yoshida, the President of Sony's Worldwide Studios, during The PlayStation Experience 2016 was asked by Digital Spy what he thought about Nintendo's upcoming console, the Switch.
"I think it's a very unique system. It's very interesting that they've designed the system to work well with more conventional games in terms of inputs and buttons," said Yoshida. "So I think it's good for core gamers and their marketing message focused on that.
Yoshida was also asked if he thought the Switch would compete directly with the PlayStation 4 or if it will be part of a different market.
"I think they're going to cover a new market for themselves," said Yoshida.

Provided Nintendo does it justice, this couldn't be further from the truth. Nintendo works best when it carves out it's own unique place in the gaming sphere. Microsoft and Sony are off to do their thing and it doesn't seem like anyone will ever wrestle control of the PC gaming market from Steam. Meanwhile, Nintendo dominates when it comes to handheld and retrogaming. It just makes sense for them to combine the two.
Isn't that what he's saying though? "I think they're going to cover a new market for themselves,"
Crap that is what I meant. Replace "further" with "closer."
Yoshida is a nice guy, it seems no one from Nintendo have ever been praising PS4 console since it's launched.
If Yoshida said it then clearly they've done something right.
They've done what we've been asking them to do for years. I see the Switch being their next Wii / DS seller if the price is right. I think $299 is perfect for core gamers, but they need to quickly make a $199 SKU for casual.
