by William D'Angelo , posted on 20 October 2016 / 8,795 ViewsMicrosoft has released its earnings report for the first quarter of fiscal year 2017 that ended September 30. The company as a whole saw revenue increase slightly year-over-year from $20.4 billion to $20.5 billion. Profits also increased from $4.6 billion a year ago to $4.7 billion.
"We are helping to lead a profound digital transformation for customers, infusing intelligence across all of our platforms and experiences," said Satya Nadella, CEO at Microsoft. "We continue to innovate, grow engagement, and build our total addressable market."
Gaming revenue decreased five percent or $110 million year-over-year. This was due a 26 percent drop in Xbox console revenue, attributed by the lower average price of the Xbox One. However, Xbox software and services revenue increased six percent.
Microsoft added that there were 47 million monthly active Xbox Live users during the quarter. That is up from 39 million a year ago, however, it is down from the 49 million from the previous quarter.
