Microsoft Games Developed for Scorpio will Run Natively at 4K - News

Microsoft Studios publishing general manager Shannon Loftis told USA Today all Microsoft games developed for the Xbox Scorpio will run natively at 4K resolution and not upscaled.

"Any games we're making that we're launching in the Scorpio time frame, we're making sure they can natively render at 4K," said Loftis.

The PlayStation 4 Pro will upscale the majority of its games to 4K, according to PlayStation president Andrew House who spoke with DigitalSpy.

"I would say the majority will be upscaled--at least based on the game portfolio I have seen to date," said House.

"No, I don't think so," he added when asked if Sony's description of 4K was misleading. "I think that whatever the term is, it's a question of whether people see a demonstrable difference in the game experience or not, rather than the term we use to apply to it. I think that's what people are looking for and they'll make their judgement as to whether that's working for them or not."

The Xbox Scorpio, which Microsoft claims to be 40 percent more powerful than the PlayStation 4 Pro, launches in holiday 2017.

Well the X1 does pretty awesome things with 1.3 teraflops. On paper 6 teraflops should allow for 4K with extra room for polish.

Only if they are good at optimization. Many people mention PC not pulling it off with 8 TF but PCs routinely have higher system requirements for anything by virtue of running more than the game and OS...

Many PC's are doing it, just not with high settings, a lot of less-demanding games, like FIFA or even The Witcher, with less then 6Tflops. Like I said, just not with the best settings, or even high settings, but the PS4 and Xbox One generally don't run on higher then medium anyway, optimazation sure, but the very biggest deal, the processor, ps4 pro will run into a ton of processor bottlenecks and also, the amount of memory, 8GB (5-6 usable) will be a big problem, scorpio needs at least 12

Is it possible MS is going to over-promise and under-deliver? I think if we look at the history of promises made about capability among all the hardware makers we can reasonably expect them to fall short of this promise. But maybe they can do it, we'll see.

Also WTF does "launching in the Scorpio time frame" mean? Does that mean they are really only talking about Scorpio launch games and that they are really making no promises at all about games beyond that launch period (Holiday 2017?).

I think they're talking about games released near scorpios launch, like how some games released near the PS4 pros launch will be getting a resolution boost but games like GTA V say will not be getting a res boost (not yet).

A " premium product" will have a premium price. What happens Christmas 2017 when Scorpio is the same price as a PS4 Pro and a PSVR headset?

Isn't that a RAM issue? It would be smart for MS to add more of that.
