The VGChartz Gap charts are updated monthly and each article focuses on a different gap chart. The charts include comparisons between the 7th generation and 8th generation platforms, as well as comparisons within the 8th generation. All sales are worldwide, unless otherwise stated.

 

PS4 Vs. Wii U Japan:

Gap change in latest month: 48,842 – PS4

Gap change over last 12 months: 659,908 – PS4

Total Lead: 208,850 – Wii U

PS4 Total Sales: 3,019,082

Wii U Total Sales: 3,227,932

In its 33rd month on sale in Japan the PlayStation 4 gained 48,842 units on the Wii U and 659,908 units in the last 12 months. The Wii U is currently 208,850 units ahead of the PlayStation 4. At the current pace the PlayStation 4 will surpass the Wii U in Japan by the end of 2016.

The Wii U launched in Japan on December 8th, 2012, while the PlayStation 4 launched on February 22nd, 2014. The PlayStation 4 has sold 3.02 million units, while the Wii U has sold 3.23 million units.

With PS4 stock issues. I guess the Wii U will hold it out for a bit.

PS4 slim is likely about to release. As soon as that happens, PS4 sales will get a huge boost and will probably pass the Wii U very shortly after that.

That is why I said the Wii U will hold out for a bit. Did you see the PS4 sales last week on Famitsu and Media Create?

I saw PS4 sales and saw how low they are, but they should be picking up by a whole lot when the slim releases in about a week.

Considering the Wii U has managed to hold off PS4 for basically it's entire lifespan, I'd say it's a victory.
