Reggie: We Have to do a Better Job Communicating When We Launch the NX, Release Continuous Games - News

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime did an interview with [a]listdaily and spoke about the upcoming launch of the NX and how Nintendo needs to do a better job communicating.

"Every time we launch a new platform, every time we launch a critical new game, we always learn," said Fils-Aime. "We always do our breakdown of what worked, what didn’t, and certainly we’ve done that with Wii U, and we continue to believe that the innovation of the second screen was a worthwhile concept.

"The games that we’ve launched on the Wii U are hugely compelling: Splatoon, Super Mario Maker, Smash Bros., Bayonetta 2, the Super Mario game, The Legend of Zelda. Arguably, if you line up all of the single platform games for Wii U and the other two platforms, we have by far the most unique games that are highly rated by consumers and highly rated by the media. So those things worked.

"One of the things that we have to do better when we launch the NX—we have to do a better job communicating the positioning for the product. We have to do a better job helping people to understand its uniqueness and what that means for the game playing experience. And we have to do a better job from a software planning standpoint to have that continuous beat of great new games that are motivating more and more people to pick up the hardware and more and more people to pick up the software.

"Those are the critical lessons. And as I verbalize them, they’re really traditional lessons within the industry. You have to make sure people understand the concept, you have to make sure you’ve got a great library of games, and when you do that, you tend to do well."

Nintendo will launch the NX in March 2017, alongside The Legend of Zelda: The Breath of the Wild.

You could start by announcing the NX already and ending all the hundreds of rumours currently out there. Nobody knows what the NX is, time to solve that.

This is true.

I feel like Scorpio and neo have more hype than NX

How many Neo and Scorpio threads do you see compared to NX threads. Around here, NX is by far the most talked about of the three.

And why shouldn't it be? It's the only gen 9 console releasing next year.

because NX is IMO by far the one that have the most rumor giving users bullets to talk about but aside from that, I don't feel the same excitement for it as I see it for scorpio and neo. One reason could be not knowing what it is.

@pray4mojo, I smell a perma-banned alt. But this site is mostly Nintendo fans, so really that's not surprising. Also I hope we stop using "generations" across multiple companies soon because when devices aren't released in-sync it's completely meaningless.

Not so much for me. They're just going to be souped up PS4 and Xbones, nothing really new to get excited over.

"motivating more and more people to pick up the hardware" Confirmed for Handheld!

the source of this article was from an interview conducted at E3 in June, which was 73 days ago. you should probably mention that to your readers in your opening paragraph. Three months is a long time to sit on an interview. Reggie gave dozens of interviews saying variations of all of these themes during E3. Reading this article in an improper context this close to September may lead people into the false impression that this is a new interview meant to get people talking ahead of the unveiling.

With respect to increasing software output, consolidating to a single platform is a step in the right direction.

No thanks on the second screen, no need for it, except for portable systems.

I've never been more confused on what to expect from a console then the Nintendo NX

Well he's right about that because here in Australia Wii U advertising was practically non existent.

They are not ready to announce it, this is what I read from this. They are afraid it is not enough and it probably would disapoint everyone now because they hyped it too much.

They didn't hype it too much. But they did let the hype build too much. They should have been upfront about it from the start, so has to lower people expectations.

Actually you should do that waaaaay before the launch, like three months ago.

I really like the dual screen concept. It really changed how I play multiplayer titles. I do not like the idea of playing them any other way anymore.

If they take the numbers seriously enough, I expect them to make proper adjustments and market this console in a more apt manner. Last time they took their lack of success so seriously, they delivered the world DS and Wii back to back. I think Nintendo, when they do the work, can be very dangerous. So, lets see how this works out.
