As part of the pre-expansion patch for World of Warcraft: Legion, Blizzard will be implementing a silence penalty for players who are found to be abusive in chat or do inappropriate chat behaviors.

Any player who has been reported multiple times in the Spam or Abusive Chat categories will receive an account-wide silence penalty after investigation.

Silenced Players Are Unable to:

  • Talk in Instance Chat (Raid, Party, and Battlegrounds)
  • Talk in global channels that are auto joined (such as General or Trade)
  • Create Calendar Invites/Events
  • Send in-game mail
  • Send Party Invitations
  • Send War Game Invitations
  • Send Invitations to Duel
  • Update a Premade Group Listing
  • Create a New List for a Premade Group

Silenced Players Are Able to:

  • Whisper to friends (both WoW friends and Battle.net Friends)
  • Reply to Whispers from Non-friends
  • Party/Raid Chat (with Invited Players)
  • Create Parties and Raids
  • Talk in Global Channels that have a moderator
  • Share Quests
  • Sign up for a pre-made group

The first offence for a player will be a 24 silence and will double for each additional silenced penalty. There is no maximum to how long a player can be silenced.

Excellent. I'm especially fond of the 'after investigation' part.

But wait in the "cant" list it states here you can't send party invites, but in the can it says you can create parties... how can you create them if you can't invite to them... for those who don't know wow you create a party by inviting another player, this is a contradiction.

Nice, and since this punishment type can go on indefinitely, it might actually get some abusive folk to learn to be better people towards others.

And people pay for this every month? Blizz is nothing but a control freak lately. I havent bought any of their games since they banned me on SC2 for 1 week just because i called someone a pussy. I spend all this money on their collectors edition, blizzcon etc. and they treat me like total garbage. It was not just this but it was the final nail, Not gonna support anything of their products.
