The number of PlayStation Plus subscribers has nearly doubled since January 2015.

There are now 20.8 million subscribers, an increase over 10.9 million in January 2015, according to a new report released by Sony. This is compared to 48 million Xbox Live users as of the end of 2015. However, it is worth noting there is a free version of Xbox Live, while there is no free version of PlayStation Plus.

Sony has sold 40 million PlayStation 4 consoles and plans to continue to push the console. The console is currently the fastest-selling PlayStation console in history.

Digital content sales increased 51 percent between fiscal year 2014 and fiscal year 2015.

That's a solid number. Even though Victor Kislyi's leak of XBL Gold subscribers is from holiday 2014 the number of PS+ and XBL Gold subscribers must be pretty close now. Latest numbers put PS+ subscribers at 20.8 mill and XBL Gold subscribers at 17 mill.

There are free accounts. You do not have to pay to have an account.

There are no free PS+ accounts though. However, it's free to make a PSN account.

According to latest numbers we have:

PlayStation Plus subscribers (paid): 20.8 mill
PlayStation Network MAU (paid + free): 60+ mill
PlayStation Network accounts (free): ?

Xbox Live Gold subscribers (paid): 17 mill
Xbox Live MAU (paid + free): 48 mill
Xbox Live accounts (free): ?

I think the amount of (paying) subscribers on PSN and XBL are pretty close now even though the XBL number is from holiday 2014 (it tends to peak during the holidays).

I still have PSPlus but I noticed I rarely play online anymore on my console, mostly use it for offline games, but the good thing from PSPlus are the free games, which have been decent and the discounts, which have been dissapointing, Its an allright service overall tough, lots of money for sony with this! They should deffenitely use a lot of it to keep the monthly free games good, that is the Biggest hook I think
