Pachter: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Will Sell 10M NX Consoles

Pachter: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Will Sell 10M NX Consoles - News

by William D'Angelo , posted on 28 June 2016 / 13,069 Views

Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter in an interview with GamerTag Radio, and transcribed by Zelda Universe, has predicted The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will sell 10 million NX consoles.

"I think everybody who buys an NX will absolutely buy it, and I think it will sell them 10 million consoles pretty quickly," said Pachter referring to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. "Zelda looked great. I mean, it really looks like a good game."

Pachter added he believes the NX will be closer to the PlayStation 4 in power than he originally thought and did not know The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild would be an NX launch title.

"I actually did not realize that Zelda was launching on NX when NX launches. That makes me think NX is much more higher powered than I expected, that NX is an iteration probably closer to PS4 than I thought it would be, and it’s going to have a big title to support it."

Pachter later added that he is not sure Nintendo will be able to make the March 2016 launch window for the NX and suggests a summer 2017 release is more likely.

Please ignore him... I don't pay attention to anything this guy says. We have an entire industry of video game journalists and analysts and we look to him as valid news? I like Zelda as much as the next guy, BoTW is my most anticipated game of 2017 but I'm not going to believe or feed into anything he says. His words are cancer.

Can't imagine why you're downvoted. Patcher is usually hated whenever he speaks but because he said something positive about people's favorite thing, he should be listened to. Silliness.

@IkePoR, I couldn't find that out myself. But the world is full of zanys and fools afterall. I'm a huge Nintendo fan, but I'm not going to take this bull as comfort. The guys is a loony. Just because he says something positive about something you like doesn't mean anything.

I think he meant it will help them to sell 10m consoles pretty quickly and not that 10m people will buy a NX because of it.

Wow... his comments make no sense. I mean does he even know that BotW also launches for the WiiU?

Mr Puggsly hunter_alien (on 28 June 2016)

Agreed, millions of us will buy it on Wii U.

As if we thought he could be any stupider...

I'm sure it'll sell consoles, but this is just wishful thinking.

I won't be buying an NX. I have a Wii U that I'm perfectly content with, so I'll be buying BotW on it instead. Might as well get more use out of my Wii U.

Nintendo drops old consoles like they're cancer ridden. The Wii-U isn't going to have anything new to play next year so, if you like Nintendo games, you're better off getting their new console along with Zelda. Otherwise, you'll be left with playing old games off Ebay.

We fell for it, Loki. Might as well smoke em if ya got em.

@Alfredo Turkey: There'd have to be some sick launch games and a steady month-to-month release schedule and no Sahara desert droughts and no DRM and be a really good price for me to fork over anything for a new Nintendo console.

That's fine. No one is forcing you to buy Nintendo consoles. If their way of doing things isn't for you, then you're better of finding somewhere else to play anyway.

Everybody has their preferences I suppose, but I wouldn't make any final decisions (or more importantly pre-orders) until the NX version is showcased to the public. Just sayin'...

@Alfredo, you say the Wii-U will have nothing new to play next year? Okay, I just need to double check the release date of Breath of the Wind!

Aside from that one single game.

cutzman25 (on 28 June 2016)

i highly doubt this, especially with the game coming out for WiiU as well. I know Im going to hold off on their next system for a while and just get Zelda for the WiiU

Well Legend of Zelda: Tp sold 1.59 on GC while over 7 millions on wii

^This. Being cross platform won't do much harm when 1) the platform is so weak and 2) the launch is simultaneous.

Nintendo needs more than this. It's an awesome looking game btw, but anything less than third party parity, or close to it, will be a very difficult obstacle to overcome. To say nothing of potential hardware, and online infrastructure deficiencies. At this point, having only the best Nintendo games is not going to cut it, I hope they have their ducks in a row, otherwise, it's curtains.

How does one even gauge how many consoles a particular game sold?

  • +1
KLAMarine COKTOE (on 28 June 2016)

By guessing.

Yes, my question is rhetorical, and your answer is spot on.

Salnax COKTOE (on 28 June 2016)

You could compare the sales of a game to the overall hardware and software sales, with a special emphasis on game-to-console ratio. And this would be easiest with Nintendo consoles, which generally have less releases per unit of hardware.

I doubt he tried anything like that though.

COKTOE COKTOE (on 28 June 2016)

Even with the plan you have put forth, it still would not be very accurate. Very few people buy a console for a single piece of software. Probably the best example of it ever happening in history is Halo on the original Xbox, but all these years later, there are no concrete numbers as to how many Xbox's it sold as a direct result. Because there can't be, and never will be, such a reportable result.

BlkPaladin (on 29 June 2016)

I have a feeling that it will sell a lot of NX consoles. Especially for those who want to play the game but don't have the Wii U. But yeah 10 million is way too bullish.

Eagle367 (on 29 June 2016)

He has cursed NX with his magic that always the opposite of what happens is true

  • 0
JWeinCom (on 28 June 2016)

So... he thinks that the NX will be as powerful as PS4, because it's going to run a Wii U game O_o

  • 0
Ganoncrotch JWeinCom (on 29 June 2016)

DO NOT QUESTION PACHTER LOGIC! PACHTER KNOWS ALL. Didn't you know the Wii Virtual console has N64 games on it, that means its as powerful as the PS3!

  • 0
binary solo (on 28 June 2016)

Oh crap! NX doomed before it even launches, thanks Pachter. According to VGC data no Zelda game has sold over 8 million. Given various contemporary Nintendo factors sales of 5 million should be seen as a great result. Anything's possible but I think Pachter is creating unrealistic expectations.

Nuvendil (on 28 June 2016)

I mean, not by itself. It's a very powerful flagship - Twilight Princess showed that - but it's not going to do it by itself. We have to wait and see what the rest of the fleet looks like. Having the USS Missouri at the head is all well and good but if the rest of your armada are tug boats you won't be impressing no one :P. So we'll see when the NX is unveiled. If they pull a Wii and have a Galaxy-level exclusive, some cool 3rd party partner exclusives, something akin to Metroid Prime 3, etc etc then yeah, the NX could get off to a fantastic start. Don't know about 10 mil, but a strong start.

hershel_layton (on 28 June 2016)

Frick, this makes me concerned. Pachter is wrong 99% of the time. NX confirmed to be doomed. Nice knowing you all.
