PlayStation 'to Retain a Strong Regional Focus'

PlayStation 'to Retain a Strong Regional Focus' - News

Sony with the PlayStation business has been focused on the local level, rather than on a global approach like what Microsoft does with the Xbox.

Sony recently restructured to Sony Interactive Entertainment and has put more of an emphasis on taking the global approach. However, that doesn't mean it will no longer put a focus on each individual country in Europe. The company understands that a focus on the local level is what lead them to worldwide success.

"One of the reasons that we are so strong globally, and especially in Europe, is because of the very strong individual country presence," Sony's Jim Ryan told MCVUK. "Whether that’s localised product, tailored distribution approaches, strength of retail partnerships... all of those things we must never lose. The trick, and it’s not easy, is to keep all of those things while at the same time achieving a level of global vision and consistency that any successful global business must have in this day and age.

"There was a risk, and I think the new structure obviates this risk, of the three very strong regional pillars - Japan, Europe and North America, which have functioned with a surprising amount of autonomy - becoming sort of monolithic structures with massive inefficiencies in them. One of the intents [of this reogranisation] is to retain a strong regional focus, but kind-of knitted together with coordinated global management."

Ryan was recently promoted from European boss to handling sales and marketing globally.

".Sony with the PlayStation business has been focused on the local level, rather than on a global approach like what Microsoft does with the Xbox." Huh? We have always said the EXACT opposite. Sony has always been more globally focused , while The Xbox is really just USA and parts of Europe.. lol

I agree. That first statement was weird for the author to say.

Sony makes games targeted at different regions, like jrpg's and Bloodborne for Japan and Shooters and god of war for the USA. While games like GT, LBP and Until Dawn attract more attention in Europe. Games like Uncharted sell quite well around the world even in Japan it sold 200k. MS targets USA and UK and makes games which mainly appeal to those markets and a part of continental Europe.

Aprry fir doublepost anyway what I am trying to say is MS doesn't have different policies per region, while Sony does thus they focus on local marjets instead of one global targeting like MS does by thinking the West likes the same games as US and UK.

Yes Qwark. Which it says in the article.. But the point is.. Sony has a better GLOBAL strategy because they focus on countries ALL over the world. Microsoft does not do this.. They really only focus on 2 major markets. Hence.. Xbox does not have a better global approach. The first sentence just doesn't make sense.. cause the quotes in the article refute it.. Like "One of the reasons that we are so strong globally, and especially in Europe, is because of the very strong individual country presence,"
