If you still play the 14 year old Final Fantasy XI on console, your luck has run out. Square Enix has shut down the servers for the game on the PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360.

If you wish to continue playing you will be required to switch to Windows PC version. However, there is no need to repurchase the game.

Square Enix has outlined how to make the transition.

They never released a PS3 version? That surprises me. I would have thought the PS2 version would have shut down years ago. I mean the sales for the PS2 version had to be super small because the PS2 required a add on just to go online and it had no real good way to do patches and stuff... Wow... Thinking about it I am sure some engineers in Japan are celebrating they don't have to deal with the PS2 version any more!
