The gameplay looks fun but I'm surprised the graphics look so average. It's a pc exclusive so why doesn't it look impressive?

Same could be said for current gen tbh.

If this was a ps4 game it wouldn't even be graphically impressive. I thought console games were holding back pc games. But it doesn't seem to be the case at least with xcom

You seem to be mistaken as XCOM was never really that franchise that was meant to be like Skyrim in terms of visuals, even then Skyrim aged horribly and so do quite a lot of games that try really hard to focus on realistic visuals. XCOM for as long as I can remember was never trying to push visuals, instead they pushed for more diversity and options with gameplay.

Or is this a sly jab or something at the fact it's a PC exclusive game?, because I see that type of talk going on whenever Xbox is involved with "holding the game back".

So if it's not visually demanding why is it only on pc? Regardless this highlights the flaws in that shaky argument. It's not consoles holding pc back, it's just the devs not wanting to make more demanding games. Hopefully the console hold back pc debate ends now. It's really the devs.

That's a cop out excuse if ever I saw one. The sales of the last XCOM were poor on last gen system combined compared to PC, XCOM started off as a PC franchise and has been on PC the whole time along with the Firaxis devs being PC centric. PC folk wanted full on mod support and refined K+M controls and Firxais wanted to deliver on that without watering the game down entirely for gamepads as well as watering mod support in general.

It's not that flawed, w3hat I find flawed is how it's somehow fair for a console to have it's own exclusives but totally not for PC and how it's completely fine to pick apart legit reasons for why it stays with PC but not with a console. See with PC no one owns the platform, it's entirely up to the devs and what they want, at best publishers can have a say but even then they don't own PC the way MS, Ninty and Sony own their platforms and control them.

Xcom doesn't even have to be made demanding at all, that is their choice and it's being respected by those actually going out and buying the game. Why does everything have to be demanding to you all of a sudden?, especially when you know not every game is demanding to begin with, especially on your plat of pref.

No the console holding PC back will never end because like it or not older hardware does in fact hold back actual demanding games, games like Star Citizen which as set up from the start to be visually demanding, especially with physics and how that game works. XCOM was never meant to be visually explosively demanding super computer needed of a game, that's you injecting that to suit your own narrative. Honestly I feel you just commented on this article because you are bitter and wanted to take a jab. I bet you'll reply in a hostile tone at this point along with making a thread to back up said hostility instead of just accepting it and letting it go.

That was last gen. Maybe you didn't get the memo but pc devs are loving the new found success on ps4.

That excuse about old hardware can easily apply to PC too. therefore all those old and weak rigs out there are holding pc gaming back. So in reality pc is just as much at fault although that was conveniently left out of the debate.

PC devs are still finding success on PC as well. even so to a point where PC still has it;s share of exclusives just like how PS4 definitely has it;s share of exclusives that still haven't hopped to PC.

The reason on PC is because people do actually upgrade their rigs over time, there are countless different specs compared to a singular build of a console and even then what hardware may seem "weaker" to you is still better than the fof the shelf parts that went into making the X1/PS4/Wii U.

This whole "PC is equal in every single way for everything" argument is really just a cop out though, both are totally different in many ways and aren't really exactly the same in every way like you claim they are. I don't even know why we're even having this debate because this article was just showing that the game has been released and they show you the launch trailer. Quality is always going to be subjective and you should know that not every game on PC has to be demanding. At the end of the day a dev chooses along with the game to stick to the platform while with consoles you have a corp buying you said games, those two aren't the same in any way because on PC you are supporting the dev while with the console the console is supporting you, big difference.

I'm having the debate because you keep replying so the debate goes on. And I'm enjoying it because I love debating. I'm a master debater in fact (college title).

Yeah I never said pc doesn't have it's successes because it does. I'm just pointing out the increased success on consoles for formerly pc exclusive games. It's great to see.

And the hardware argument is legit. Development on pc is held back by the fact gamers pc specs are all over the place from high to low I'd say they prefer consoles where they know everyone gets the same experience and they can tailor it to them.

Yeah you think it's great to see PC lose it's exclusives but you aren't glad to see your own platform lose any. pot calling the kettle black in a nutshell.

No, not by a long shot mate.

I'm sorry but I actually like seeing get ports of the ps4 exclusives like Street fighter. It's good to see Sony recognise pc isn't a treat and it's good for you guys not having to wait months or years for a port. All because of good guy Sony.

And ya ps4 is basically a pc that's easy to develop for. Xcom could easily be ported. And judging by the big increase of PC Game to console success stories this year then done goofed up with that one. Speaking of cop out excuses, pc mod support wasn't affected on games like fallout 4 due to a console version. Hell they're even allowing console to get mods.

Speaking of, the mod scene will probably be the next pc to console success story! I would say early access but xbox already proving consoles can do that no problemo!

Except it's Capcom who owns SF, Capcom who makes SF and Capcom who publishes SF. Itsn't it a treat how Capcom releases their games on PC like normal =D, just like Dragon's Dogma!.

Sony doesn't recognize PC the way you think it does.

Same with PC if you want to go that route and the "dun goofed that one".

PC mod support isn't on consoles as of yet and even then you should know mods aren't integral to consoles and never have been so I don't know why you;re throwing that in the works. Tell ya what, why don't you go to our PC sub thread and have a good old debate with all of the guys there, I;m sure they will bask in your "wisdom".

Also console mod support for one game, that's not even out yet and it;s been months already while PC has had countless mods and the official tools aren't even out yet so yeah...

Wrong again! Sony have helped develop SFV and they'd no problem it going on pc as I said good guy Sony. Now thank them!

Yes mod support on the way and with it another pc convert making its way to consoles.

No need to thank a company that owns the rights to an IP and game they are going to publish.

"Yes mod support on the way and with it another pc convert making its way to consoles. "

Any ETA on that mod support and how many mods it will support?.

"PC convert"?.

Yes you should thank Sony because after assisting with development they could have easily pushed for full exclusivity or make you guys wait a year again. good guy Sony doesn't see pc as a treat though.

And you should ask Bethesda for that eta. And thanks quoting me. I love reading my writing a second time. It's really that good :)

I don't need to thank a corp that only cares for money and has absolutely no interest in my nor my platform at all. If they truly cared they would be pulling an MS and getting into the OS business and porting over their own 1st/2nd party titles over and yet MS does that more than Sony which is why you get PC users thanking MS for doing so.

What about all those KS projects that get funded by PC users alone and ported, I don't see you thanking them at all regardless and I;ve never once seen you thank them in any way without resorting to making them sound like less of something.

You sound very high about yourself, that's not a healthy thing.

You don't see me thanking them because you don't stalk my every word. Because I do (if that makes you feel any better). Microsoft are only courting the pc because they're being demolished by Sony in the console space

I really liked the last XCOM on the PS3. A bit bummed there is no console version. There may never be either, according to the devs.

malistix1985 (on 06 February 2016)

I will wait a bit, see what the mod community does, I liked Xcom but I didn't "love" it

  • 0
Chazore malistix1985 (on 06 February 2016)

The modding community is already well underway making mods with the first few already being up on the Steam workshop and the devs even had some modders load their mods from the previous XCOM to this one before the game even launched.

The mod support is here and now. Why not get it sooner rather than later?, XCOM isn't always about mods tbh.
