Nintendo: Splatoon Tracking Ahead of Mario kart 8 in Japan - News

Nintendo has revealed to investors that Mario Kart 8 had a bigger launch than Splatoon in Japan. However, since that time Splatoon has managed outpace Mario Kart 8.

"Sales of Splatoon have consistently exceeded that of Mario Kart 8 with the exception of the period right after its release," said Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima. "You can also see a substantially bigger sell-through of the title in the year-end sales season. Splatoon is not losing momentum even after the start of a new year and we anticipate it has the potential to be a long-selling title."

Looking at Worldwide sales, Mario Kart 8 remains the best-selling Wii U game with sales of 7.24 million units, while Splatoon has sold 4.06 million units.

This game has the legitimate potential to be the best selling console title of the 8th generayion.
The only title left that can compete with it in my view is Final Fantasy XV.

That's quite crazy. Must admit I haven't played it yet, cause everybody said the single player mode is nothing substantial. Hope they add that for Splatwo on NX, which surely is in development already.

I would say the single player mode is amazing. But well, that´s just my opinion! I loved it! I had more fun with it than I was expecting. If they make a full Splatoon game based on that, I´d be the happiest man alive xD

I immagine a not so far future where Splatoon fans and Mario fans fight about which series is the best like what happened with Sonic/Mario...

except Mario / Sonic where comparable platforming games, Splatoon and Mario have little to nothing in common

I could see a Splatoon / Smash Bros comparison though since they're both competitive fighting

Splatoon is tracking ahead of Mario Kart 8 in the market that abandoned traditional console gaming for mobile games.
