Nintendo Officially Puts Quality of Life Product on Hold - News

Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima was quoted yesterday that the Quality of Life product was not up to the level of a Nintendo product and was unsure if it will ever be released.

Kimishima has now told Wired that the product has been put on hold and will not longer release by the end of March 2016.

"In regards to the Quality of Life [device], which was not mentioned in any of today’s questions, we do not have the conviction that the sleep-and-fatigue-themed [device] can enter the phase of actually becoming a product," Kimishima said. "We no longer have any plans to release it by the end of March 2016. On the other hand, we still believe there are things we can do in the general category of Quality of Life, and we will continue to study the possibility of expanding into this field."

Instead of being a wearable device, the Quality of Life device would have been kept next to your bed and it would be able to sense if you were sleeping or not. If you didn't get enough sleep it would suggest to eat healthier and get more exercise.

Not that surprising, that bussiness oportunity was over a long time ago. Now focus all of those resources on the NX, it will need them.

I'd love to go walking and earn tons of play coins with my 3DS, but you only get 10 a day and they can't really be used on much. Too bad.

Yeah. The coin limit is so crap. I don't even bother bringing my 3DS when I do my 3 mill walk.

Totally forgot they were even making that. Or they were so vague about it I assumed the idea had evolved into the NX.
I think it's a good idea to try and diversify. I think the age of proprietary consoles will come to an end some day and when that happens, Nintendo needs to have other products to fall back on if they don't want to have to downsize, because that would mean letting a massive number of employees go which is a huge stigma in Japanese business, much more so then in the west.
