Ubisoft's newest game, Far Cry Primal, which was leaked yesterday, has now officially been announced.

As expected, the game is set during the Stone Age. You can view the reveal trailer below:

"The award-winning Far Cry franchise that stormed the tropics and the Himalayas now enters the original fight for humanity’s survival with its innovative open-world sandbox gameplay, bringing together massive beasts, breathtaking environments, and unpredictable savage encounters.

Welcome to the Stone Age, a time of extreme danger and limitless adventure, when giant mammoths and sabretooth tigers ruled the Earth, and humanity is at the bottom of the food chain. As the last survivor of your hunting group, you will learn to craft a deadly arsenal, fend off fierce predators, and outsmart enemy tribes to conquer the land of Oros and become the Apex Predator."

And here are some of the game's key features:

  • Rise Above Exctinction: You will play as Takkar, a seasoned hunter and the last surviving member of your group. You have one goal: survival in a world where you are the prey.
  • Stone Age by Far Cry: This isn’t the Stone Age you thought you knew. This is the Stone Age with irreverence and mayhem. This is the Stone Age by Far Cry.
  • A World Ruled by Giant Beasts: After the last Ice Age, the glaciers retreated to leave behind a land blooming with nature and resources where humans and animals alike can thrive – provided they have what it takes to prove their dominance.

Far Cry Primal launches on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on February 23, 2016.

Looks cool. A pretty good answer to Polygon's "not enough black characters you evil cis scum" as well.

The character in the top image has coloured eyes. "RACIIISSSTTSSS". Polygon and Kotaku will likely feed off that for weeks now. You can never make these people happy as it's their job to cause synthetic outrage.

Interesting concept but looks boring. The guns in Far Cry 3 were so satisfying to shoot.

Cool, didn't see that coming.

Please make it multiplayer. I don't necessarily want a MOBA, but at least I want to be able to go caveman with a group of friends. 4 Player Co-op will hit the right spot.

Feb 2016? Nope. Doesn't hit my 2 year mark after Far Cry 4 to like a game. I think it'll flop.

Sounds like a downloadable game actually.

Being a modern Ubisoft game, it's no surprise that this looks so interesting yet also manages to look uninteresting at the same time. Ubisoft tends to have good ideas, but all their main releases are pretty much the same deal. Really just open world action games with stealth elements and maybe a crafting system here or there. They really need a breath of fresh air.
