3DS Vs. PlayStation Vita Global:
Gap change in latest month: 289,934 – 3DS
Gap change over last 12 months: 6,915,486 – 3DS
Total Lead: 41,727,195 – 3DS
3DS Total Sales: 54,131,288
PlayStation Vita Total Sales: 12,404,093
In the latest month the gap grew another 289,934 units in favor of the 3DS, while the gap has grown by 6.92 million units over the last 12 months. The 3DS currently leads by a total of 41.73 million units.
The 3DS did beat the PlayStation Vita to the market by 10 months. The 3DS launched in February 2011, while the Vita launched in December 2011. The 3DS has sold 54.13 million units, while the Vita has sold 12.40 million units.

Aye, but Nintendo was impacted by the mobile market too. The 3DS, unless there is some wonderful miracle, will end its life being the lowest selling Nintendo handheld globally. Parents seem to prefer giving their kids tablets and phones to play games on then giving them a dedicated gaming console. Having said that though, it looks like in Japan the 3DS is on track to becoming at least the 4th highest selling console of all time.
