Welcome to the VGChartz Gap charts. These charts are updated monthly and each article focuses on a different gap chart. The charts include comparisons between the 7th generation and 8th generation platforms, as well as comparisons within the 8th generation. All sales are worldwide, unless otherwise stated.

PlayStation Vita Vs. PSP Global:

Gap change in latest month: 709,904 - PSP

Gap change over last 12 months: 12,245,329 - PSP

Total Lead: 28,277,250 – PSP

PlayStation Vita Total Sales: 12,404,093

PSP Total Sales: 40,681,343

In the latest month the gap grew another 709,904 units in favor of the PSP, while the gap has grown by 12.25 million units over the last 12 months. The PSP currently leads by a total of 28.28 million units.

Both handhelds launched in December in Japan, the PSP in December 2004 and the Vita in December 2011. The Vita has sold 12.40 million units in its first 45 months on sale, while the PSP sold 40.68 million units.

Dang. I wish the PS Vita was selling better than it is right now. It is a great handheld system imo.

Agreed, it's not doing too badly in JP and EU but is more or less dead in US. Still doing better than Wii-U weekly.... but yeah it's a handheld that should have been pushed a lot more by Sony to let people know just how great the thing is. I think it's my primary gaming device now for the past maybe 6months to a year.

As weak as it looked alongside the DS last generation, it has to be remembered that the PSP sold numbers close to the Xbox360 and PS3 last generation ending up with over 80million units sold.

Yep, it was actually pretty successful. It's a shame the Vita failed that hard. Competition sometines is good.
