Harmonix, the company behind the Rock Band franchise, has partnered with crowdfunding website Fig and will help bring a new game called Outer Wilds to market.

The campaign for Outer Wilds, which was launched by developer Mobius Digital, will end in two weeks' time and is looking to raise $125,000. As of the time of writing more than $106,000 has been raised by 606 supporters.

Harmonix CCO Alex Rigopulos will also be joining Fig's advisory board. Also on the advisory board is Feargus Urquhart from Obsidian Entertainment, Brian Fargo from inXile Entertainment, and Tim Schafer from Double Fine Productions.

Fig allows game developers to raise money through crowdfunding, alongside equity investments.

Thanks Polygon.

I enjoy that I got downvoted for detailing why the reporting is bad. Way to aim for a higher standard, VGchartz. I'm so proud of you all.

I apologize for my huge block comment, but this write up just skirted right alongside the main point and pulled from what looks to be one of the worst write ups for the press release.

You completely missed the point of the article with this summary. The point was not Outer Wilds, although that is a noteworthy potential success as the first project from Fig. Harmonix is not directly supporting that project though. The Harmonix CCO is joining the Fig advisory board, and Fig's first project just happens to be Outer Wilds. The important aspects are:

A) Fig is a new crowdfunding platform that works with reward-based crowdfunding and investor crowdfunding to facilitate the development of more video games for independent developers.

B) Fig is entirely for video games. This is a service built around game development to improve the games ecosystem. They want to offer a way to see game development more transparently from independent studios, while offering a funding method that can lead to true success.

C) A key part about the Harmonix CCO joining the advisory board is that they plan on bringing a currently unannounced title to Fig for funding in Q4. I think Polygon may have glossed over that bit, so I can't blame you too much for not seeing that. Basically, they are working to improve Fig as a crowdfunding platform from both sides.

D) Another point I can't recall if Polygon hit is that other studios such as Double Fine Productions, inXile Entertainment, and Obsidian Entertainment are all planning on using Fig to crowdfund for currently unannounced projects. Unlike the Harmonix project, no time window was given on when these projects would go live.

I actually covered the press release itself on another site, so I don't blame you for not really having all the important details, especially when the Polygon article devolved into Rock Band 4 and talking about the state of Harmonix when that was not the point of the press release. It's really just bad reporting on their part, trying to fluff out an article with doom and gloom talk, especially when the press release was pretty beefy with a quote and a focus on the Fig platform, as well as the talent that exists on its advisory board from noteworthy independent studios.
