Hideo Kojima Says Goodbye to Metal Gear Series in Debriefing Video

Hideo Kojima Says Goodbye to Metal Gear Series in Debriefing Video - News

by Craig S , posted on 02 September 2015 / 5,531 Views

Acclaimed developer Hideo Kojima has officially said goodbye to the Metal Gear franchise in a video posted to YouTube.

You can view his emotional 'Debriefing' video below:

Hideo Kojima's journey with what has become one of the industry's premiere franchises began with 1987's Metal Gear. Now, roughly 28 years later, the final Kideo Kojima-directed title has been released.

The series will continue on, but there have to be serious doubts about whether it can maintain the same level of quality that's made Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain one of the leading contenders for 2015 game of the year without Kojima at the reins.

I find this hard to believe. Metal Gear Solid 2-4 were also his last Metal Gear game...
See you for MGS 6, Kojima.

Also, what about that Project Ogre?

I think he's pretty much gone from Konami after this. No collaboration with Konami, no Kojima-made MGS.

Yeah, the big difference with MGS 2-4 were he was still employed by the company that owns the rights to the series. And from the way things played out, it doesn't look like you can expect a Kojima/Konami reconciliation any time soon.

Especially the fact that Kojima Productions is no longer around.

Regardless, I only hope better future for him. He have revolutionized how games are presented multiple times, and I hope that to continue.

I think Konami's going to reduce MGS to pachinko something something.

Depends on what platform and the quality of the games, Konami could keep it up but as long as they don't fuck up the story

I think it has one shot at a successful game without Kojima and that's a Twin Snakes style remake of the NES era Metal Gear 1 & 2. Bringing Hayter back to play Solid Snake as he infiltrates Outer Haven & Zanzibarland to face off with Sutherland's Big Boss.

Beyond that, I think the book is finally closed on the Metal Gear Saga.

"Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain one of the leading contenders for 2015 game of the year"

Hold the phone on that, people are just barely sinking their teeth into this game. Some don't seem to be too into the game.

Aye it's hard to look at a game getting 10s across the board from reviewers and think it wouldn't be a contender for GOTY

Reviewers have had it for a while, hence why they've been able to put 60+ hours into it before the game released. That's where the Game of the Year nomination is coming from already. I just started it and I can see the potential from the first actual gameplay chapter. Graphics are top notch and the range of freedom to approach may prove interesting.

Doesn't matter what players think, reviewers decide GOTY not players and reviewers love the game.
