Fallout 4 Has 400+ Hours of Content - News

It looks like Fallout 4 is going to be a truly massive game. Bethesda’s lead producer Jeff Gardiner has played the game for roughly 400 hours and is still discovering new content.

"I’ve played the game for probably 400 hours, and I’m still finding stuff that I haven’t seen," said Gardiner in an interview with OXM, reported by Gamespresso.

The crafting system in the game also adds a degree of customization that has not been seen in previous Bethesda titles.

"For the larger building stuff it’s not stored in your inventory, it’s in the workbench that you’re using in that area," said Gardiner. "I de-constructed this and it’s all stored over her and then when I go to build it’s pulling from that inventory of stuff I have."

"It’s all common sense visual stuff," added Gardiner. "If it doesn’t connect to the generator, the power doesn’t work. You can actually flag stuff to say ‘I’m looking for this stuff because I want to make this’ which means that when you’re scavenging anything that fulfils the requirement gets flagged in the world. When you connect stuff to the computer terminal you have a lot of control and sort of fine tuning. If you’ve got something that plays music, you can actually define how it’s playing music."

Is that much content really necessary?

Nothing is necessary and you don't have to play for 400 hours. I like getting my monies worth and enjoying new things to do in games I love. But to each his own.

Enjoy these massive games, but I find myself getting bored sometimes following all the side quests and have to leave them behind for the main story which is usually stronger and more engaging.

Lately, the overall game time seems like a competition.First came the witcher 3,saying that it had 200 hours of content. Then came X, with 300 hours of content. Now 400 hours with fallout 4!!!At this rate we will have games with infinite amount of content

400 developer hours or 400 regular hours?

In other words it's a Bethesda Game Studios game :P . This is the same as Skyrim, Oblivion, and to a lesser extent Fallout 3. The "core content" (main story) will probably be in the 30 to 50 hour range assuming you don't skip all dialogue.

You can finish fallout 3 in about an hour if you skip over a portion of the story... I did however end up spending over 400 hours playing that game.

Yeah Fallout 3's story is shorter than Skyrim's or Oblivion's, largely because large sections of it can be bypassed if you manage to run past specific parts. Not sure about an hour.
