Itagaki: Devil's Third is 'Going to Take Shooters to the Next Level' - News

Tomonobu Itagaki has told Famitsu in a translated interview that Devil's Third represents a breakthrough for the industry, despite the recent backlash against the title.
"[Devil's Third is] a culmination of everything so far—not just mine, but of everyone that works here," said Itagaki. "Please try it for yourself. I think it's going to be a breakthrough for the industry. I believe it's going to take shooters to the next level."
Itagaki said that people really need to play the game in order to form an honest opinion; it is impossible to fully understand a game by reading about it.
"You played through the introduction, one very small part of the overall game," said Itagaki. "I wanted you to try it out because even though you can explain something in 1,000 or 10,000 words, there's no substitute for actually experiencing something yourself. One thing that I was careful about . . . I've made an A-class action game already with Ninja Gaiden, and Dead or Alive ranks up there with Tekken and Virtual Fighter."
"So when I became an independent developer, I started thinking about what kind of game I wanted to make. I thought it'd be pretty boring to make another fighting game or another hack-and-slash—life is short, you know? I decided I wanted to challenge myself in another genre. I had a really strong desire to make a completely new type of game. Sort of . . . a culmination of all my games up until now."

It was not advertised by Nintendo, and now, all the crappy Pre-Reviews are making the best possible Promotion for the Game- Also, Itagaki has a loyal Fanbase. If Nintendo lowers the price of the Game, Devil's Third will be a hit. I'm not joking. This is the Game many people will pick up do to the controversial Reviews. Of course it won't sell a million, but I guess it won't bomb, despite the quality of the Game.

A culmination of fighting games and hack'n'slash is a shooter? Interesting. Isn't a culmination of a fighting game and hack'n'slash called Soul Caliber?
Can we stop feeding Itagaki's desperation over his crap game? All he does is lie and try to slander others because he feels slandered. He's childlike and has done nothing but further damage the reputation of an already poor game, as well as himself as a game developer and person.
Define poor? devils third has better quality than most indie games which cost 20 bucks these days
Really? Comparing it to the deluge of under developed indie games? A game that was in development for years, started under THQ, revived by Nintendo, and we're comparing it to low budget, low effort indies?
Well it's been in development for what like 8 years!? I would certainly hope it is truly a great game... But, exclusive to the WiiU? Where exclusive 3rd party games go to die.... I question the exclusivity deal with Nintendo. I don't see success for the Devil's 3rd on the Nintendo WiiU.
The whole "don't listen to reviews, you must play it to make a choice!" bit is always a fast track to my skeptical list.
I was going to say damage control but if Itagaki can come out and say, ". . .Dead or Alive ranks up there with Tekken and Virtua Fighter," with a straight face then the man has his head shoved so far up his ass he can't even smell his own bullshit anymore.

To be fair it make sense he would desperate he took a giant risk leaving his old company if this game fails he could end up in a shitty situation.
