Welcome to the VGChartz Gap charts. These charts are updated monthly and each article focusses on a different gap chart. The charts include comparisons between the 7th generation and 8th generation platforms, as well as comparisons within the 8th generation. All sales are worldwide, unless otherwise stated.

PlayStation Vita Vs. PSP Global:

Gap change in latest month: 660,438 - PSP

Gap change over last 12 months: 12,197,125 - PSP

Total Lead: 27,142,633 – PSP

PlayStation Vita Total Sales: 10,613,796

PSP Total Sales: 37,756,429

In May the gap grew another 660,438 units in favor of the PSP, and the gap has grown by 12.20 million units over the last 12 months. The PSP currently leads by 27.14 million units.

Both handhelds launched in December in Japan - the PSP in December 2004 and the Vita in December 2011. The Vita has sold 10.61 million units in its first 42 months on sale, while the PSP sold 37.76 million units.

I'm confused why VGChartz keeps posting these. Vita is selling significantly less than PSP and that's isn't gonna change. These updates are going to be the same news every time.

Surpassing actually, but yeah :) wii u and vita are doing baaad 3ds is good, but still not as good as ds sales were.

Depressing... can only hope Sony learn from this, and if they do a new handheld at some point, they make it cheaper, dont use proprietary memory cards, and maybe drop something like that touch screen at back.

It's upsetting that the Vita has done so awful. It's literally everything the PSP was, cranked up to eleven. And yet it has such awful sales. I personally blame Sony for jumping ship on the machine as soon as it wasn't going the way they wanted.
