Yu Suzuki Won't Be Disappointed If Shenmue Doesn't Raise $10M - News

Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki has said he won't be disappointed if the Shenmue 3 Kickstarter campaign doesn't hit $10 million.

In the latest update on the Shenmue 3 Kickstarter campaign page, Suzuki answered some questions from the fans.

When asked about not hitting the $10 million target Suzuki said the following: "No I won't be [disappointed]. I am grateful that there's another chance for a new Shenmue. I will make what I can within the budget from your money."

More 'I AM SHENMUE 3' rewards have now been added to the campaign. This is because when the Kickstarter campaign first went live it had sold out by the time most people in Europe had woken up.

I don't see why he should be disappointed considering the goal of the Kickstarter was to raise $2 million, which it did within the first 24 hours.

i dont trust is statement. he said he will make the game with what ever he get from kickstarter (that probably end around 6 million) with 6 million impossible to make a great open world game no way. (without outside funding)... so if true with around 6 million game will end mediocre to meh!

The game does have other funding sources. Suzuki cannot state what they are or how large they are, but they exist.

More importantly, it needs to reach 5m : "if we reach the $5 mil mark, one of the things I really want to do with Shenmue 3 will become a reality". Whatever that character perspective system is, apparently we need it.

Those game journalists are to blame for the amount of backlashes they've done! If it wasn't for those the fund raise would've reach 7-8m by now!

Hang on a minute! He's not planning to make Shenmue III with nothing but the Kickstarter money is he? That might be...problematic for expectations from gamers. Is he planning to recycle the game engine he used for Shenmue II?

In the faq he says there is other fundings secured (besides marketing from sony). So kickstarter may have some correlation on additional funds. Like 1:1 or 1:2, so 5M could equal 10 or 15M (plus marketing) and with 10m could reach 30M which could be enough for a great game.
