Following Watch Dogs Fiasco Ubisoft to Make Sure Games are Playable on Correct Hardware - News

When Watch Dogs was unveiled at E3 2012 it stole the show, but by the time the game was released in 2014 there had been a noticeable visual downgrade compared to that first gameplay demo.

Following widespread criticism from fans Ubisoft has now changed its procedures for showing off games before they are released.

"With E3 2015 we said, OK, let’s make sure the games are playable, that they’re running on the target machines" said Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot. "When we show something, we ask the team, make sure it’s playable, make sure gamers can immediately see exactly what it is. That’s what we learned from the Watch Dogs experience – if it can’t be played on the target machine, it can be a risk."

Ghost Recon: Wildlands was the only game that wasn't playable at E3 2015. There will however be a hands-on demo available at the Paris Games Week in October.

Thanks, The Guardian.

What a team Ubisoft has. They have to make sure the game is playable... Pretty sure when people write books, they have to make sure it's readable...

I know that I've lobbied many complaints against Ubi-Soft these last two years, and I stand by them all. However, to be completely fair this proves that at the very least that they're learning.

Yes, making a game be playable at E3 may SEEM like a no-brainer, but in today's world it's a depressingly common trend. Ubi has gone through issues with this recently and they've learned it's not a positive thing for them. So hey, improving is improving so I have to give them props for this.

That just means that the games won't push boundaries anymore.

good, it does seem like companies are listening to the complaints of fans. hopefully this becomes an industry wide trend.

They only listen to fans when it hits them in the wallet. Ubisoft's problems started before Watch Dogs.

They should have done it since forever, not since E3 2015!...

From now on, they're going to make sure their games are playable when shipped? Amazing.

Downgrades are only okay when Uncharted does it.
