Gap change over last 12 months: 17,885,243 - Wii
Total Lead: 40,698,058 – Wii

May 2015 is the 31st month of the Wii U being on sale. The gap increased during the month when compared to the Wii’s 31th month on sale by 773,342 units in favor of the Wii. The Wii currently leads by a massive 40.70 million units.
Both consoles launched in November - the Wii in November 2006 and the Wii U in November 2012. The Wii U has sold 9.73 million units in its first 31 months, while its predecessor, the Wii, sold 50.43 million units.

I wish we were in the 7th generation again. Never again will we have 3 consoles and 2 handhelds that sell at least 80 million each.

Well this is awkward.
Wii U is selling badly, but the Wii is crushing even the PS4. :O
The Wii was truly a monster. :P
PS4 will still win in the long run, once the Wii hits that drop off.
Except we're not in 7th Gen anymore, and the Wii was generally irrelevant in that generation, too. Most people bought it as a "Wii Sports appappliance" and weren't really gamers, which you can see is translating to not being a real install base, only sales. Plus, the PS4 is a legitimate gaming console, not a gimmick, so when the Wii drops off for disinterest, the PS4 will remain strong.
This is the most devastating of all charts.
