Mojang has announced Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta. It will be released alongside Windows 10 on July 29th and will be available to download via the Windows Store.

Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta will be free for anyone who owns the PC edition of the game, otherwise it will be available for $10. Like any other version of Minecraft future updates will be free.

The Windows 10 version is in beta due to it still being in the middle of development. It will evolve over time with feedback from players.

Here is a list of some of this version's features:

  • Craft, create, and explore online with up to seven friends playing Windows 10 Edition Beta, through local multiplayer, or with your Xbox Live friends online.
  • Play online and local multiplayer with other Pocket Edition players thanks to a free update, due to arrive soon after launch.
  • Multiple control schemes. Switch between controller, touch, and keyboard controls with little to no effort.
  • Record and share gameplay highlights with built-in GameDVR.
  • Help shape the future of Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta with our built player feedback mechanisms.
  • Chickens, zombies, pigs, boats, armed skeletons, potatoes, zombies, baby squids, enchantment tables, villagers, naked sheep, iron golems, potions, ghasts, pickaxes, carrots, and all the weird and wonderful goodness you’ve come to expect from Minecraft.

Interesting, MS are giving away free upgrades to Win 10 and now there giving away there big franchise away for free... Remember when fanboys called MS evil.

This isn't free unless you already own it, which means it's not really free. If you don't already own it, you have to pay for it. Also, they're not giving away stuff just because they're good guys. They're doing it because they need to have as many people convert to 10 as quickly as possible, and also because it's getting harder and harder to justify having to pay for an operating system when the updates are free pretty much everywhere else.

they got a evil plan behind they mind (MS never give anything for free without having a idea to get $ back)

^Yeah, because they had trouble getting people to upgrade to Win 8. It would have been difficult with Win 10 too if they didn't offer it as a free upgrade. Also, it's free for Win 7 and 8 owners only, everyone else still has to pay for it.

Uh huh... As long as this doesn't affect the regular PC version negatively, I don't mind. It's worrying though.

But it's free ;) it's an incentive to upgrade to Windows 10 :p

Sounds like it has a lot of the feature of the console and mobile version, some of which I don't want on PC. Also, I'm sure 'Windows 10' here means it will be distributed via the store, which is a more strictly controlled environment. I don't want any of that.

Also, not an incentive to me. I'm gonna need a lot more convincing, especially after having tested Windows 10 on a virtual machine.
