Tearaway Unfolded is a Joy to Play - Preview
by Nick Pantazis , posted on 02 July 2015 / 4,894 ViewsWhen Tearaway was released there was nothing like it on the Vita. It was a revolution of creativity for the platform, which had primarily just been hosting PC and indie game ports up until then. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to turn around the Vita's fortunes, and this under-appreciated game sold little on the system, so few got to experience its greatness.
So it's good news that Tearaway will be made available to a new, much larger audience on PS4, and this version, titled Tearaway Unfolded, is suitably different from its older brother to meet the heightened expectations of PS4 fans.
Unfolded follows the original game’s plot, placing the player as a divine being, helping either Iota or Atoi to reach their goals with the PS4’s unique control features.
Visually, the game is a spectacular upgrade from the Vita. Unfolded is rendered in 1080p and at a gorgeously smooth 60 frames per second. The game features a beautiful soundtrack, and the same adorable charm you’d expect from a Media Molecule game.
The touchpad is used to blow gusts of wind, which fold the paper world, allowing you to manipulate platforms for Atoi/Iota. The PlayStation Eye, meanwhile, can be used to take pictures of yourself and apply them to the game world to hilarious results.
Items can also be tossed into the DualShock 4, then tossed back out to where you need them. You might recognize this function as similar to that found in the Playroom PlayStation Eye demo. Don’t worry, though, you won’t need a PS Eye to play Unfolded; all you need is some imagination and a sense of fun.
You can enjoy this PlayStation 4 reimagining of a Vita classic when it releases on September 8th worldwide.
This preview was based on an early build of Tearaway Unfolded played at E3.
