Nintendo Asked Criterion to Develop a Wii U F-Zero Title - News
by Craig S , posted on 23 June 2015 / 4,008 ViewsAccording to NintendoLife, Nintendo of Europe asked acclaimed racing developer Criterion Games to develop a new F-Zero title for the Wii U.
Criterion is most well-known for developing the Burnout series of racing games and more recently worked on the Need for Speed series.
According to NintendoLife's source the discussions took place in 2011 and centred on persuading the developer to pitch an F-Zero game that could be shown at that year's E3 and which would then go on to be a high profile launch title.
Criterion's Alex Ward has confirmed that these discussions took place but that, unfortunately, because Criterion was too busy with other projects to work on the title and Nintendo wanted the game to be released on a very tight timescale, nothing ever came of the discussions.

Shame really, F-Zero GX is still one lovely game for how fast it runs.
That would've been cool to see. Even if it underwent the typical Nintendo cycle of delays, we would still be playing it by now.
beeje13: The article states the discussion took place in 2011. Criterion was acquired by EA in 2004.
Was this when Criterion wasn't owned by EA?
Because EA was pressuring Nintendo to use Origin on the WiiU, and they could have used FZero as leverage on that argument.
One of my fav franchises of all time. F-Zero X being at the top. Didn't enjoy the Sega one as much as the EAD ones, but it was still quite good. Would have been interesting to see a different studio's take on it.
Depressing how many people are still satisfied with playing the same game over and over again, even after the derivative disappointment that is Star Fox Zero. Don't "remaster GX." Hire a studio to make a new F-Zero that is better than GX.
Just remaster F-Zero GX and release it on the eShop...
